Schluderns ([ ʃluˈdɛrns ]; Italian Sluderno ; Rhaeto-Romanic Schludern ? / I ) is an Italian municipality with 1839 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Vinschgau in South Tyrol . Audio file / audio sample

geography

Schluderns is located in the Vinschgau in the west of South Tyrol. The village is located at an altitude of 921  m on the orographic left side of the Etsch Valley at the exit of the Matscher Valley , which, apart from its lowest section, belongs to the neighboring municipality of Mals . Schluderns is crossed by the Saldurbach , which flows below the village into the Puni , which in turn flows a short distance further towards the Etsch . The municipality finds its highest point in the northeast, where it reaches the southern foothills of the Ötztal Alps and the Saldurkamm on the Sonnenberg .

With the Churburg ( 13th century ), Schluderns has the best-preserved fortification in the country. The complex, redesigned in the Renaissance style in the 16th century, with its arcade courtyard and valuable armor has been in the possession of the Counts von Trapp since 1504 . Also worth mentioning are the Catholic Church, which was consecrated to St. Catherine, as well as the Vintschger Museum with several permanent and traveling exhibitions, which focus on South Tyrolean customs.

Events

The South Tyrolean jousting games are a three-day, medieval festival that usually takes place in August in Schluderns . The Schluderns cultural center offers various events throughout the year.
