Streets and squares in Berlin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The overview of streets and squares in Berlin lists the individual articles of districts of the German capital, in which the corresponding localities are described. The history of the respective districts is dealt with in these lists only with reference to streets and squares. Instead, they contain information about the names of the streets and squares, their length and dimensions, the origin of the name and the time of naming.

In addition to the aforementioned objects, allotment gardens (colonies), parks, cemeteries, special areas are included in the articles of the respective Berlin districts and, if necessary, described or linked to main articles. As far as the context shows, comments on former or planned streets are given in separate lists in order to better describe historical references to the development. Information relating to the district itself is given under its special lemma.

Basics

In § 2 of the Berlin Roads Act, public roads are defined: “Public roads in the sense of this act are streets, paths and squares that are dedicated to public traffic.” The streets, squares and green spaces are the public space that is used for everyday and tourist routes and stay, is used for encounters and city experiences. This is where the demands of different functions such as transport, sales, events and political rallies collide. The law also mentions federal highways and private roads as additional types. All these types of streets are included in the district lists. Federal motorways on the territory of the districts are only listed as an overview, in some cases with lane lengths. The official documents were primarily used for the selection and the information in the lists. For historical information, these are preferably the Berlin address books (which are available online until 1943), and in some cases also historical plans. Private roads were only included if they were dedicated under official measures or if there is a special significance. Such (semi-public, officially designated) private roads are dedicated at the request of the residents or owners and remain in the right of way without restrictions. Private roads that are not included in the Berlin street cleaning plan are not included in the lists.

The streets of Berlin and other objects, such as KGA , parks, bridges, are numbered nationwide and sorted into different categories. The StEP class comes from the road development plan (as a partial plan of the urban development plan ), the RBS class is derived from the street directory of the “Regional Reference System” (RBS) and the “OKSTRA class” is the categorization from the object catalog for roads and transport (OKSTRA) derived. Examples: (1) Fürstenwalder Damm has the street number 45930, is marked in the StEP with category II as a higher-level road connection, has OKSTRA class G (municipal road) and RBS class "STRA", has a carriageway in both directions (" B ”) is passable and is located in the districts of Köpenick , Friedrichshagen and Rahnsdorf . (2) With the number 8815 the Bohnsdorfer Schirmpilzstraße is listed in the road development plan as “V” (without StEP recording), according to Okstra as “N” and in the RBS as “FUWE”. If such information is relevant, it is included as a comment in the street lists of the districts. The naming procedure in accordance with Section 5, Paragraph 1, Clause 2 of the Berlin Roads Act applies to naming and dedication. For this purpose, inquiries in the land surveying offices of the districts and at the office for statistics clarify that the street names for Berlin are unique.

The information in the district lists for the total length of all streets in the district is determined from the distance between the two end points. The lengths given in the official lists (RBS: regional reference system) are based on road maintenance requirements , so parallel or other lanes that belong to the road can be included. The practical street length was mostly determined with tools from Google Earth in the middle of the respective street and rounded to ten meters, so the information on the official measurements are not identical.

Remarks

The number of streets (and squares) in the districts has been adapted to the existing district lists. The information in these lists is based on the database of the regional reference system (RBS) of the Berlin-Brandenburg Statistics Office, the map of the district surveying offices of Berlin, the "lifeworld oriented spaces" (LOR) of the Berlin Brandenburg Statistics Office and are on site through on-site inspections , further supplemented by research in Berlin address books and in maps of Berlin and the surrounding area as well as the evaluated information at "kauperts.de".

“Roads are included in the RBS if they are official (dedicated) or if - in the case of private roads - there is a municipal interest in proof of the road. The five-digit street numbers that are unique throughout Berlin are assigned by the Berlin-Brandenburg Statistics Office. New and renamed streets are given a new number; numbers that become free are not used again. Key numbers are also given so-called numbered streets (e.g. "Straße 160"), bridges, motorway sections, paths, squares, train stations, allotment gardens (KGA) and other objects relevant to securing public and private life. "

- Statistics Berlin-Brandenburg

Street numbers allow the clear allocation of Berlin streets, even if the names are assigned several times. In the linked lists of streets and squares according to districts, there are not only dedicated streets but also those that have special features and that currently exist. Former streets are (if it is relevant for the district) in the article lists as a separate table. The street lengths of the districts according to the RBS database contain the federal highways, city roads, private roads (of particular importance) and paths recorded in the RBS detailed network. Information for the districts is taken from the Statistical Yearbook and restricted to public, dedicated streets.

Note 1 : The above "je ..." columns provide information on the type of development along the roads and the density of the road network. The values from the RBS were taken over for the total length of the street in the district. Further data are contained in the linked lists in the first column, for example to differentiate the number of streets from the number of spaces, via official or individual street names for private streets used by residents.

The street lists according to districts were created between 2010 and 2015. Necessary sources for complex or complicated contexts were provided with the online material of the Berlin State Map Works at “fbinter.stadt-berlin.de”. With the advancement of HTML technology, changes to the source code result, which can influence web links or change references. Since the summer of 2015, access to map material from current and older plans (from 1930) in the urban area of Berlin has been improved. These documents and receipts are not used consistently in the (created) lists. It is recommended to use "Histomap-Berlin" with its search options for more detailed research. "HistoMap Berlin" is a cooperation project between the Berlin State Archives and the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin with the support of the Senate Department for Urban Development and the Environment (geodata service).
