Notes

  1. According to Doctor Who Magazine #370, this episode had the working title of I Love the Doctor.
  2. This is the first story in which Jackie Tyler travels in the TARDIS alongside the Doctor and Rose.
  3. This is the first Doctor Who story that contains an ampersand instead of the word "and" in its title
  4. The Abzorbaloff was created by nine-year-old William Grantham of Colchester, Essex, who won a "Design a Doctor Who Monster" competition held by the children's television programme Blue Peter. The prize was to have his creation appear in an episode of Doctor Who.
  5. Russell T. Davies cast Peter Kay in the role of Victor Kennedy after Kay wrote a fan letter in praise of the new series.
  6. Several fan reports covering the filming of this episode have mentioned that both the Autons and Slitheen will be in this episode. Speculation is that the scenes involving these aliens will be flashbacks to the events of Rose and Aliens of London/World War Three as seen through the eyes of Elton Pope.
  7. Simon Greenall told the local Cumbria newspaper, the News and Star, that his character, Mr. Skinner, is "a lonely little man who forms a group with other people who want to find the Doctor." He also said that the Doctor is in this episode only at the beginning and end, and that Peter Kay's character, Victor Kennedy, is also the Abzorbaloff.[1]. Heat magazine confirmed this with pictures of Kay as both characters.
  8. Actress Bella Emberg previously had uncredited roles in the Third Doctor serials Doctor Who and the Silurians and The Time Warrior.
  9. The idea that some people in the Doctor Who universe follow the Doctor's real adventures in a similar manner to the programme's fans was hinted at with the character of Clive in Rose. It was also used in the Virgin New Adventures novel Return of the Living Dad by Kate Orman.
  10. According to Doctor Who Magazine #366, this episode will be released as a "vanilla" DVD along with The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit.
