The Article Creation and Improvement Drive is a weekly collaboration to improve articles to featured article status.

/History - For past winners.
/Removed - For removed nominations.
/Maintenance - ARCAID upkeep.

Introduction

To vote or nominate you have to be a registered user with at least one contribution that is not a vote. Any and all articles may be nominated except:

If you wish to help with maintenance of Article Improvement Drive (updating vote counts and such, please see this page: /Maintenance.

User AID unfolds to

This user participated in the Article Creation and Improvement Drive.

How to nominate

Here is the template for nominations:

ARTICLE (1 vote, stays until DATE ONE WEEK LATER)
:Nominated MONTH DAY, YEAR; needs at least 4 votes by DATE ONE WEEK LATER, YEAR

; Support:
# (sign with four tildes)

; Comments:
* (put your reason for nomination, sign again)

----
 1. Copy and paste the template to the bottom of the list of nominations on this page and fill it out. It is important to use UTC time; the current time and date now is 06:29, Tuesday, June 11, 2024 (UTC).
 2. Under "comments" section put explanation of what work is needed.
 3. After submitting the new nomination, go to the nominated article and put AIDnomto do on the top of the article's talk page.

How to vote

Sign with "# ~~~~" on the end of the list of the article you want to vote for and then update the vote count in the subhead. Opposing votes are not counted; see approval voting. You can vote for as many articles as you like. If, after you vote, the vote count equals the "needs at least xx votes by", then add 4 to "needs at least xx votes" and add a week to date in vote count and "needs at least xx votes by" notice.

Example. You encounter this situation and decide to vote:

History of the world (23 votes, stays until February 7, 2006)
:Nominated December 8, 2005; needs at least 24 votes by February 7, 2006

First you put "# ~~~~" on the end of the list of people who voted for that article and then change the vote count and date in following manner:

History of the world (24 votes, stays until February 14, 2006)
:Nominated December 8, 2005; needs at least 28 votes by February 14, 2006

How the article is selected

Article with most votes on each Sunday in 00:00 GMT is selected as "The current Article Improvement Drive article". If two articles have same number of votes, the older nominee wins.

The next project article is to be selected on Sunday, September 17, 2006. 00:00 GMT (Template:DAYSTOSUNDAY)

How an article is removed from the list

Articles need four votes per week to stay on the list. If current date (June 11 2024) exceeds "stays until" date of particular article, that article entry is removed from this page and moved to page for removed nominations.

 • I found really useful, though it could do with a little more info as it is a developing field and many people are interested in it. I agree with Kafziel that 'it could be a great article if some knowledgeable people can get together on it'.Silver4

 • This is a very important subfield of biology yet all we have is a stub. While the Evolution page has endless debates over whether creationism should be included, debates that go nowhere but consume many many hours of time by several editors (some quite capable), here is an important scientific topic practically abandoned. Lexor suggested merging it with another article - I have no objection and leave this decision to biologists. But whether merged or kept, I think this is th perfect example of a scientific topic that deserves attention and care to help make this a great encyclopedia.

In fact, if anyone actually knows an embryologist, please encourage them to contribute!

 • This is a huge topic that gets a lot of media coverage in Australia, the US, the UK and probably other countries. And our article is barely more than an ugly little stub. A massive amount could be written on the topic, with studies, media controversy, facts, figures etc etc. Stevage 09:21, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

 • This is a subject very near and dear to my heart. coffee's peer, tea, is already a featured article. Now that the FA nomination of the previous object of my obsession, caffeine, seems to be coming to a successful conclusion, this article seems like a logical followup. The current status of the article is only barely acceptable in its current form, so it needs quite a bit of work to reach FAS.
 • How could anyone not vote for coffee? I've had so much coffee today, I may have to vote several more times. ;)
 • Just thinking of this makes my heart race. :) Durova 15:02, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

 • October 23, 2006 is the 50th anniversary of this momentous uprising when Hungarian citizens bravely dared to expel the Soviet military; it was one of the bravest acts of the 20th century. It would be an appropriate featured article for 23 Oct 06, but needs lots of outside help first. People close to the subject matter are often still too passionately invested in the event to objectively evaluate different points of view, thus the page has seen more than its share of argument, revisionism (its arguably the most embarrassing of subjects to diehard communists), and rancour. The wider wiki community could do it some good and put this article up as featured on its 50th anniversary. Istvan 04:31, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It would be great to get this article all cleaned up and ready for Featured status on Oct. 23....a Wikipedia salute to the memory of those brave Hungarian citizens. :) K. Lastochka 02:06, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

 • Wikipedia classes this as a top-priority core biography, yet it's rated a B-class article and has a cleanup template. Surely we can do better for one of the most important writers in the English language. Durova 08:18, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

 • This article could really do with some major historical input, primarily on the French Revolution, but also other historical examples.

 • This has been on Wikipedia:Most wanted stubs since January, and it is a basic physical concept. The target audience of this article is probably elementary school science students; content appropriate to that age level needs to be added. -- Beland 18:46, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

 • One of the most popular books in the world, this should really be FA. Green caterpillar 17:30, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
 • Oppose - Harry Potter is currently being worked on by the HP WikiProject, and the article would have to wait until seventh book until it would likely be featured. I am a fan, but there are over 100 wikipedians working on it everyday. It'd just be a mess if even more worked on it. --andrewI20Talk 04:23, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

 • There is so much potential for this article, but it is (and has for a while) been in lackluster condition. Habsburg Spain is already featured; this article ought to build on what is probably the most colorful portion of that period. --DanielNuyu 09:18, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
