Media Promotion

The first teaser for BB07 was run during Ten Network's Cool Aid: The National Carbon Test. It featured a series of gold and green dots spinning around in a circle on a white screen, becoming a green "BB" logo. Other promotions have since been made including the above promotion repeated. A few weeks later a promotion was aired about the Starburst Golden Key (see above). The advert included Starburst trucks leaving a compound and a voiceover mentioning the secret. This was similar to the Golden Tickets in KitKat bars in the UK in 2006. Another included a set of siamese twins getting cut in half with a voiceover saying "Only one golden key holder can enter the house".

The new series of promotions for BB07 features a man as a black silhouette completing a stereotypical election campaign, and is accompanied by a voiceover saying things along the lines of "This man is the voice for your generation" and "This is the man you can trust". A later series of ads featured the phrase "Making the Big Brother House a (blank) place to live", with words such as "more revealing", "tougher","intriguing" and "more entertaining" filling in the blank.

On 17 April, 2007, it was stated in a commercial for the program that aired on Channel Ten that the housemates would not be receiving any prize money. There will also be no cars given out when a housemate exits[3].

On 19 April, 2007, additional advertising on the Ten Network revealed that a mysterious identity named "Mr X" would have an influential role in the Big Brother house.

Housemates

This year, the housemates are reported to be more diverse than previous series' contestants. They are reported to each have different stories behind them. It has been revealed that this year's selection of housemates are far less superficial than previous contestants, older and more intelligent housemates are expected in order for more diverse discussion to take place.

It was reported in The Daily Telegraph on April 12 2007, that one of the housemates is suffering mild obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)[4].

Big Brother Starburst Golden Key

On 2007-01-29, Network Ten, Endemol Southern Star, and Masterfoods announced "Australia's biggest ever integrated television promotion", the Big Brother Starburst Golden Key, which would allow a member of the public to enter the Big Brother House as a housemate.[5]

From 2007-02-15, unique alphanumeric codes will be included in packs of Starburst, a confectionery manufactured by Masterfoods. One hundred codes will give people obtaining them the opportunity to audition for the season after it begins. Of these people, one will become a housemate, and will be eligible to win the season and all prizes.[5]

Influences

Australia's Big Brother Starbust Golden Key contest is similar to an idea first conceived for Big Brother UK 2006 in which 100 golden tickets were placed randomly in Kit Kat chocolate bars available to the public (ref. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). A new "Golden Housemate" emerged from a live drawing consisting of 34 golden ticket holders.
