Shredderman Rules (2007) is a Nickelodeon live-action made-for-tv movie, starring Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide's Devon Werkheiser as Nolan Byrd (Shredderman). It aired on Ned/Shred Weekend along with the series finale episode of Ned's Declassified titled Guide to: Field Trip, Permission Slips, Signs, and Weasels on June 9, 2007. Based on Wendelin Van Draanen's book series, it chronicles Nolan's attempts at stopping Bubba Bixby (Andrew Caldwell) from bullying him by setting up a website and pretending to be "Shredderman".
Plot
In "Shredderman Rules", Devon Werkheiser plays Nolan Byrd, an 8th grader who, along with many other kids, is bullied by Bubba Bixby (Andrew Caldwell). When his teacher Mr. Green (Tim Meadows) announces that he wants his class to do a Media Project, Nolan decides to do his project on Bubba. Nolan goes undercover, spies on Bubba, captures the bullying that he does to the kids at his school and airs it on his new website www.shreddermanrules.com. Nolan uses the name "Shredderman" because Mr. Green once labeled one of his tests with a personal note ("You Shred Man!") and to protect his anonymity. Bubba gets in trouble with the principal Dr. Voss (Mindy Sterling) after she sees what Bubba has done. Nolan goes further. He tapes the evils that the faculty does around the school and they get busted. Rumors start floating around that Mr. Green is Shredderman. He is subsequently put on academic leave. Nolan soon finds out that Bubba's dad (Daniel Roebuck), who is the "sewer king" of the town wants to destroy a pond and turn it into a sewer for the city. Nolan tries to stop this by putting it on his website. Word quickly spreads about this and people hate the idea. Many kids get together and protest. Nolan does research on the construction and tries to see if he can stop it.
Meanwhile, Nolan's Dad (Dave Coulier), a writer for the newspaper, gets a story about this whole construction story and tries to be the first one to get to the story. Bubba and his dad do bad things and blame Shredderman. Bubba steals Claudette, the guinea pig who belongs to Isabel, Nolan's crush. Max, who used to be Nolan's best friend, helped out, even though he's a bully on Bubba's side. They go to the pet shop and retrieve Claudette. It almost got run over by the sewage truck, but they saved Claudette. The day that the deed is expected to be be signed for construction, kids protest. Nolan sneaks into a tree and controls 2 airplanes and a boat to ruin the signing. The treaty gets blown onto a nearby tower and Bubba's dad climbs the tower to retrieve it. Mr. Green and Nolan's dad are there and Nolan's dad is getting everything down so he can publish this story. When the treaty is received a small model boat come by the shore of the pond and Bob's voice is heard on it, saying he doesn't care about nature or the pond. The principal tries to stop Nolan, but she gets covered in blue slime. Bob and Bubba are exposed.
Bob is arrested and forced to do community service at Nolan's school. The principal's face is blue because the slime dried. Nolan's dad got published and goes to Britain to write a bigger story and leaves the family for a small trip. Everyone knows about Shredderman and all want to meet him. Nolan doesn't tell anyone that he is Shredderman. He goes on with his life like a normal kid. After Isabel tells him that Claudette is pregnant, Nolan finally asks out Isabel (but not before she does a few Lois Lane-like guesses about who Shredderman's true identity is) on a date and she accepts.
Trivia
- In the final few seconds of Nolan's last daydream, there is a parody of the end of Back to the Future complete with a spoof of the flying DeLorean.
- Nolan's daydream after he experiments with Isabel's guinea pig spoofs Saturday Night Fever and quite possibly the film, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps
- The climax featuring Bob Bixby references the film he was referring to earlier about the "dead monkey", King Kong, even parodying the last line of that film: "Twas 'doody' killed the beast."
- The word "doody" is also used in Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide's series finale, Guide to: Field Trips
- Specific lines from Smash Mouth's Walkin' on the Sun were taken out of the film during the montage where it is used.
- In the movie, Devon Werkheiser's initials are N.B., which are his initials in Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide.
- Two websites are of this movie. Shredderman.com and ShreddermanRules.com. Shredderman.com is based on the books. A bonus is a hacked website by Bubba. ShreddermanRules.com is based on the movie, showing real clips and a game in the movie.
- The film's opening song (which is also used throughout the film) is "Better Days" by Paul Doucette.
- The antagonists' last names are Bixby, which is only one letter away from Devon Werkheiser's character in Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide's last name, Bigby.
- The movie has many goofy sound fx like Neds Declassified since Devon Werkheiser is Ned in NDSSG and is the star. Also Nolan Byrd has the same enishals as Ned Bigby.
- Mr. Green plays a Gibson Flying V throughout the film.
