This is a list of characters from Happy Tree Friends.

A few characters from the show

Cuddles

File:Cuddles.png
Cuddles

(Voiced by Warren Graff ) Cuddles is a yellow male bunny with pinkish cheeks who inexplicably wears pink rabbit slippers. Cuddles is one of the primary characters in the series. Like Giggles, Toothy and Lumpy, he appears in many of the advertisements.

Cuddles was the first character to be created in Happy Tree Friends. Creator Rhode Montijo first drew him in a piece of paper with the phrase Resistance Is Futile above and that was how the creators got the idea for the show. His voice is even performed by the co-creator of the show Kenn Navarro.

Both his white fluffy curly hair tuft and cotton tail look exactly the same. His long ears move to match how he feels, for example, if he's happy, they'll stay up, and when his feelings are hurt, they droop.

Cuddles' personality is somewhat mixed. On one hand he can be dangerously mischievous. Also he can be self-centered. Both of these characteristics can lead to both his death and other characters deaths. On the other hand he is also friendly and caring, making his personality more complex than the others. He was seen to have multiple houses, but his official one is known to be a Hollow Tree, as it is the only one to appear more than once ("In a Jam" and "Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow").

He is particularly good friends with Toothy, Flaky and Lumpy. Cuddles and Giggles are also very close friends, and it has been hinted several times they each have crushes on each other. Their love relationship is most prominent in the Fall Out Boy music video: "The Carpal Tunnel of Love".

With a number of 45 deaths, Cuddles is the character who gets killed most times in the Happy Tree Friends franchise. He is also the character who has, so far, been killed by Flippy the most (though, to be fair, Flippy generally kills everyone in episodes in which he is featured). While he still dies a lot in the web and TV series, Cuddles has survived several times ("Doggone It", "Sea What I Found", "A Change of Heart", "A Sight For Sore Eyes", "Letter Late Than Never", "Double Whammy Part 1" and "We're Scrooged!") and some of his deaths are debatable in ("Mime To Five" and "Concrete Solution"). He tends to die some of the messier deaths such as being sliced to bits by helicopter blades, ceiling fans, exploding, and slithering through a treehole as a bloody mush.

Cuddles is one of the characters to have an account on MySpace. It mentions that he is actually allergic to carrots because they make him choke, which is evidenced by the 'Feed' section of his Smoochie. In addition, it mentions he collects powerful antique electric toothbrushes and his fur is highly protected from the sun.

He appeared in the God and Devil show (Robert Downey Jr.) as an icon on gods keys.

Giggles

File:Giggles HTF.png
Giggles

(Voiced by Ellen Connell (2005–)) Giggles Is A pink female chipmunk who has one light pink diamond-shaped marking and wears a big red bow on her head. She has the personality of a young girl, as she enjoys frolicking through flowers, having tea parties with friends, ice skating, and having a shy and sweet demeanor. Her name comes from her habit of giggling often. She appears to be allergic to flowers which was revealed in her Valentines smoochie.

Giggles is one of the primary characters of the series and appears along with Cuddles, Toothy and Lumpy in the advertisements. She may have also been one of the first characters to be created along with Cuddles.

Giggles is a very affectionate character and is often seen hugging and kissing several of the characters. She is particularly close to Cuddles whom she has a crush on as hinted in several episodes (especially in "Remains to be Seen" when zombified Giggles and Cuddles did the famous Lady and the Tramp kiss and in the Fall Out Boy: "The Carpal Tunnel of Love" music video where for the first time their romantic relationship was really explored).

She is best friends with Petunia. The two run a lemonade stand together. She is also friends with Toothy because Toothy is friends with Cuddles. Though Giggles' deaths aren't usually as gruesome as Petunia's, she appears and dies more often. Her deaths usually involve her head.

One of her most gruesome injuries (and possibly the most gruesome) was the Eyes Cold Lemonade skit. It involves the front of her head to be sliced off by nails.

Toothy

File:ToothyBeartrap.jpg
Toothy

(Voiced by Rhode Montijo) Toothy is A light purple male beaver with very large gapped teeth (that's where he got his name from) and freckles. Although his character description on the official site says he has "big ol' buckteeth" larger than the other characters (more like that of SpongeBob SquarePants), he occasionally has the normal buckteeth. This was mostly due to the laziness of the animators, but when Fatkat took over for the TV series, this problem was removed. He is generally a very friendly character who likes to play around now and then, particularly with the younger characters. He admires Splendid and even dresses up as him for Halloween. As with Cuddles, Lumpy and Giggles, he is another of the main characters since he's often seen with them on both Happy Tree Friends products and advertisements. He can also be seen hanging out with Petunia. (as shown in the TV series theme song in which they were both on a see saw) and in "Hero to Eternity" when Toothy and Petunia are building a snowman. Toothy was also Flippy's first victim in both the online shorts and TV series.

There are a couple of ways in which he is famous: he is the first character to be killed ever in Happy Tree Friends and he is also the character who suffered a very long and horrible death in the episode that won an award at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France, the infamous Eye Candy. Also, Toothy has a wide range of deaths; usually involving ocular trauma.

He can be used in wider range of situations, unlike most of the other characters whose personality defines how they might act in a given situation. He mostly acts before he thinks, for example running away and throwing a lit candle behind him - though he is by no means addle-brained.

Lumpy

File:Lumpy HTF.jpg
Lumpy

(Voiced by David Winn (2005–)) Lumpy Is A light blue male moose with clean teeth, nice bright eyes and mismatched antlers. Known to be the big brother, or perhaps babysitter of many of the other characters. He usually means well but he's extremely stupid. Furthermore, he screams like a girl.He is not so reliable at times and tends to mess things up a lot. Although Lumpy generally always killed someone by design, he is portrayed as a villain for the first time in "Dunce Upon a Time." However the ninety ninth episode he killed another character intentionally was "Happy Trails Part 2: Jumping the Shark".

He is one of the character with a standard nose with two nostrils (most of the smaller Happy Tree Friends all have heart-shaped noses). Plus, he is the only one whose hands don't turn mitten-esque like the others. Lumpy has appeared in the most episodes out of all the other Tree Friends, and most fans consider him the odd one out due to his height and lack of a normal Happy Tree Friend style face. There were some arguments about him being too close to Bullwinkle and "Montgomery Moose", the group's leader of The Get-Along Gang, so his right antler was drawn upside down. He's a hillbilly judging by his voice, his lifestyle, and the clothes he wore. He also likes to hang out with the kids. Lumpy has had many occupations in many episodes, including teacher, ticket clerk, bus driver, convenience store owner, police officer, and more. He is usually a fill-in character like Wooldoor Sockbat from Drawn Together. He is often shown in tremendously incongruous situations, such as lounging lazily, shirtless, in a hammock, while the rest of the Happy Tree Friends gang are playing in the snow, as seen in "Snow What? That's What!".

His low intelligence is often the cause of other characters' deaths, and sometimes his own. In fact, Lumpy has caused the death every character at least once, except Cro-Marmot and Splendid, as he was killed by them twice. At 118 kills(slightly more than double that of Flippy's), Lumpy has the highest kill count out of all of the Happy Tree Friends. His deaths usually involve getting crushed. He lives in a trashy trailer and drives a Lincoln Continental. His MySpace account mentions that his favorite foods are cheese and sandwiches, his favorite dessert is cheesecake, and that he likes to talk to lettuce as seen in the Collect Them All Section. And has died 1,233 times!

It's been announced that Lumpy will be one of the three playable characters for the XBOX 360 video game Happy Tree Friends: False Alarm.

Petunia

File:PetuniaHTF.jpg
Petunia

(Voiced by Dana Belben(2005–)) Petunia Is A blue female skunk with a light blue arrow marking on her forehead, which is connected to the triangle shaped marking on her back. She almost always wears a pink flower on top of her head and a pine scent deodorizer around her neck to cover up her skunk smell (even though it says on the website that she bathes many times a day), Petunia is rarely seen without her flower or deodorizer, she was seen without her flower for a brief time at the beggining of the episode "Wishy Washy" and she was also seen without it at the end of "As You Wish", and "Kringle Bells", she has only been seen without her deodorizer once, it was in her smoochie under "swim" after the shark ate her head and thrashed her body to the wall, her body was seen without it. Many fans regarded her as slightly older than Giggles on the Internet episodes. She likes to play with her dolls and often has tea parties. While Giggles is childlike, Petunia acts more mature for her age. Petunia's deaths are mostly caused by household items or sinks

Petunia is often seen in the series with Giggles. They appear to be best friends and they run a lemonade stand together. In the Internet series, they were almost identical in personality. However, whilst Giggles has appeared and died more in the series than Petunia, Petunia's deaths are the most gruesome in the series (such as having her face burned on a burger grill by Flippy, being flattened by Cro-Marmot, killing herself with a potato peeler, and bed springs ripping out her organs). Many fans refer to her as one of the most unfortunate characters because of this. Like Giggles, her head is usually involved in her deaths. Petunia is also the only main character of the series who has not directly caused the death of any of the other characters so far.

File:Ellen Connell.jpg
Ellen Connell

The creators have given her an obsessive compulsive disorder. More specifically, she is a "neat freak". She takes showers five times a day, as it reveals in the "Collect Them All" section, and if things are either dirty, or out of their proper place, she starts to hyperventilate. She will do anything to clean it up again. In the TV episode "Wishy Washy" she got incredibly filthy and was unable to clean herself, so she went crazy (her face almost looked like Flippy's) and killed herself with a potato peeler, trying to get clean. This obsession was revisited in the later episode Wingin' It. This was to separate her personality further from Giggles, but they are still best friends.

Petunia, like Giggles, has been used as a damsel in distress on some episodes, which is evident in "Gems the Breaks," "Who's to Flame," "Dunce Upon a Time", "Read 'em and Weep", and "House Warming".

Handy

File:HandyHTF.jpg
Handy

(Voiced by Rhode Montijo) Handy Is A orange male beaver, with unexplained amputated hands. The stumps are covered with bandages. Handy is a construction worker and wears a tool belt and a hard hat (the typical dress of most construction workers). He's also one of the adult characters. His dam mostly consists of tools that are operated by hand.

Despite his lack of hands, he is still capable of building many things big or small, though we never actually see him build it in the first place - it is usually off-screen (with the exception of Wheeling and Dealing, where he is seen putting the final touches to his race car). Usually, whenever he builds something for the female characters they are very pleased and often thank him by hugging him for it, like Petunia from House Warming and Giggles from Home is Where the Hurt is(even though Handy had killed the girls in both). This has led some fans to believe that he has a crush on them.

However, whenever we do see him try to do something, which would usually require hands, he fails and pulls his trademark frustration look, indicating that he forgot that he didn't have hands. Usually when he finds a compromise, it will lead to his own death and sometimes the death of others. His deaths usually involve either glass, his organs, or getting impaled.

It is possible that in the TV series, Handy has gained an interest in flying, as seen in Who's to Flame, Gems the Breaks, A Change of Heart, and Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow. From the episode, In a Jam, it became apparent that he has photosensitive epilepsy, the flashing lights triggering a seizure as his eyes go ascrew, he jitters, and he foams at the mouth. At one point in the episode Wrong Side of the Tracks, Cuddles lost both of his hands, and Handy looked at the stumps on his arms and gave a mocking laugh. This could imply that Handy is jealous of people who have hands, but it could simply be Handy laughing at his "survivor's luck" and Cuddles' misfortune.

It has been announced that Handy will be one of the three playable characters in the XBOX 360 video game Happy Tree Friends: False Alarm.

Nutty

File:Nutty.jpg
Nutty

(Voiced by Michael "Lippy" Lipman) Nutty Is A Green/Yellow male Squirrel with one yellow diamond shaped marking on his head and an addiction for candy or anything that contains sugar. He has a big swirly lollipop, candy cane, small all-day sucker, and a candy apple stuck to his fur, which he even treats as his wardrobe, as evidenced in Chew Said A Mouthful episode. Although this often changes. From his debut in the episode, Nuttin' Wrong with Candy, the candy attached to his fur fell off, therefore Nutty was seen without candy stuck to him for the first time. The second time Nutty was seen without candy attached to him is in the beginning of the episode, Chew Said a Mouthful. One of his eyes resembles Googly eyes and the other bears a slight resemblance to Flippy's 'flipped-out' eyes. It's apparent that his googly eye is an amblyopia, or lazy eye, as it's almost always looking down and drops down whenever he looks somewhere else. His lazy eye actually changes between his googly eye and his "flipped out" eye, depending on the episode.

As a result of his huge sugar intake he is often hyperactive and jittery, and giggles more than he talks. He was first heard saying that he wishes for a scrumptious lollipop in As You Wish. One drop of sugar makes him go Tasmanian Devil. He also foams at the mouth when deprived of candy or any other sugar-related items. Nutty will do whatever it takes to get the sugar he wants, even if it involves ignoring his hurt friends(Party Animal) or stealing the candy from them.(Sweet Ride, Sucker For Love) . If he doesn't get what he wants he becomes very irate. Nutty will eat other types of food occasionally (like in Class Act, when he eats part of Sniffles' body, thinking it was a candy cane), but it's a very rare case. Whenever he goes to sleep without any sugar, he'll feel very sleepy and tired as he was seen yawning and sleeping in late. He seems to lack common sense, which is evidenced in many episodes. Nutty also seems to be slightly insane, as he seems to think anything brightly colored is candy(A Sight For Sore Eyes, Stealing the Spotlight). He sleeps in a tree colored with candy cane colors. His room is very messy and he has a bed with legs like candy canes, but instead of the bed, he sleeps in a bunch of candy wrappers and he has been seen drinking coffee made out of jelly beans, clearly not sweet enough for him since he adds a lot of sugar.

Most of his deaths are caused by his obsession of candy. In the episode Sucker for Love Nutty died in a fatal accident over a box of chocolates.

Nutty also has a scooter, which he is seen riding in a few episodes, such as Sweet Ride and Carpal Tunnel of Love'.

Sniffles

File:Sniffles2-1-.gif
Sniffles

(Voiced By Liz Stuart) A blue-gray Male anteater who is one other the most intelligent characters in the series. He's the second character without a heart nose and a pair of buckteeth. He usually likes doing and reading science and maths. To reinforce the 'nerd' image that Sniffles exudes, he is seen dressed up as a Star Trek character (probably Spock, the Vulcan ears being the giveaway) in "Remains to be Seen" and also carries pens in a pocket protector on his chest.

Sniffles' IQ has proved to be extremely high in both the Internet and TV series. He has built things which are far more advanced than most of the other characters, including a rocket from a bus and even a time machine. However, sometimes these devices can malfunction and work against him, leading to his own death. Like Toothy, he has a wide range of deaths, usually involving either his tongue, his head, his limbs, or his organs. He also has a multitude of jobs, including a doctor and a pilot.

Sniffles also has a craving for ants, which is one of his animal instincts. However, whenever he tries to eat one, they kill him, after torturing him in the most sadistic manners first. Only in the episode "Blast from the Past" has Sniffles eaten an ant without being killed. In general, Sniffles' deaths are slower and more painful than most of the other characters. "Tongue in Cheek" had to be his worst and longest death, even leading to him crying because of how painful it was. It show's in the episode "Blast from the Past", that anteaters and ants used to be friends and when Sniffles eats an ant, the Prehistoric Sniffles sees that anteaters are supposed to eat ants and that's how the anteaters and ants became rivals.

Pop

File:Pop Umbrella.jpg
Pop

(Voiced by Aubrey Ankrum) Pop Is A very light brown male bear. He is another adult character. Some people refer to him as the stereotypically clueless, bathrobe-wearing, pipe-smoking 1950s style sitcom father. He never appeared in any episode without Cub excluding his BBQ smoochie.

His son Cub often dies as a result of both his attention and inattention - although it's clear that he loves him. In the web series he usually didn't know of his son's deaths, but he is more aware of them in the TV series. He isn't very bright (like in Easy For You To Sleigh, he pulled the fire detector off and later on killed himself and Cub because of the smoke) and when he tries to save his son, he often kills him and sometimes himself, too. The only time Pop killed Cub intentionally was in the episode Read 'em and Weep, because Cub was possessed by a demon, forcing Pop to kill him (despite the fact that Lumpy had already exorcised the demon from Cub). In both the Internet shorts and the TV series, he survives almost every episode in which he appears. But when he does die, a large portion of his deaths involve fire.

Pop does not appear in as many episodes without his son. He originally was going to appear in Happy Trails Part 2: Jumping the Shark, but many considered it weird for Pop to kill Flaky. Instead Flippy took his place. However, Pop becomes more prominent in the TV shows.

Pop is one of the few characters in the show who has a much more intelligible way of speaking. He almost speaks clear words in some of the episodes he appears in and even reads a story of "The Night Before Christmas" to Cub in one of them.

There is evidence in the recent episode Can't Stop Coffin that Pop may very well be a widower, due to the fact that in their cameo in the episode, he and Cub are seen mourning at a gravestone which probably belongs to his dead wife.

Cub

File:Cub.jpg
Cub

(Voiced by Kenn Navarro(2005–)) Cub Is A very young light brown male bear, who is the son of Pop. He has the appearance and personality of a baby but the intelligence and mobility of a young child. He's the youngest and smallest character of the Happy Tree Friends and his eyes are unlike those of the other characters, giving him a more adorable appearance than the other characters, but he does die and get injured a lot.

He has appeared and died much more in the series than his father. And usually his deaths are a result of Pop's bad parenting, even though Pop clearly cares about him. If his father's not paying attention to him, he will often be seen wandering around operating machines by himself or carelessly drifting into death-introducing hazards, such as the time Cub was sucking on an electric razor as if it were a pacifier, soon ending with Pop plugging it back in, much to Cubs despair.

Cub rarely survives in the series and his deaths are usually very gruesome, painful and ironic. The only episodes that Cub didn't die in along with Pop are Out of Sight, Out of Mime, Don't Yank My Chain and See What Develops. And the ones without Pop, he also survived in Rink Hijinks and I Get a Trick Out of You. Also the episodes where Cub survived but was injured were A Hole Lotta Love and A Sucker for Love (Both parts) Both of these were with Pop.

In the Halloween episode Can't Stop Coffin, when Pop & Cub are seen mourning at a gravestone, it could possbily be Cub's dead mother.

Flaky

File:Flaky.jpg
Flaky

(Voiced by Nica Lorber) Flaky Is a red female porcupine whose quills are full of dandruff, thus the name. Flaky is one of the most popular characters in series and has the identifiable personality of being a very shy and timid character ever since she had a traumatic childhood event. She is afraid of chicks as seen in "From A to Zoo".

Flaky has often been viewed as a coward. However Flaky's actions in both the Internet shorts and the TV series go against this as she has been brave and on several occasions had saved her own life several times. Additionally, when hanging around with Cuddles, Flaky is often forcefully dragged into situations that lead to one's or both their demises, despite her warning Cuddles about possible dangers that could occur. Her deaths tend to involve either getting skinned, eaten, or exploding.

Flaky is a helpful character, as evidenced by a couple of the TV episodes. All these factors suggest that Flaky is not only overly cautious (as opposed to being a coward), but also one of the more intelligent and kind characters of the series; for example, daring to organize a surprise birthday party for Flippy, a character who is well-known for being mentally unstable. She is also seems to be allergic to nuts. When she consumes a nut , her face gets covered in pimples , her lips swell up , and she inflates like a balloon , as seen in "Party Animal". However, she has on occasion been seen as somewhat unstable herself - near the end of the episode "Snow Place to Go", she begins to go insane and makes a companion with a garden gnome and singing "Rock-A-Bye Baby" to it after being trapped in the Arctic with no food or civilization.

Flaky's gender is unconfirmed. Even the Happy Tree Friends website is ambiguous to her gender. She was originally created by Rhode Montijo to be a boy, but in commentaries in DVDs, most of the creators refer to Flaky as a "her." Many think that Flaky is a girl due to her voice, her personality, and other things like flower designs on her briefcase and surfboard. Others refer to Flaky as a boy due to the activities she does, evidenced by Smoochies and episodes she has appeared on, although fans who refer to her as a female consider these as evidence that she's a tomboy. It is unknown how, when, or if ever they'll reveal Flaky's true gender. For now it's for viewers to decide their own opinion.

The Mole

File:Mole2-1-.gif
The Mole

A blind lavender male mole with dark glasses. He wears a purple turtleneck. Like Mime and Cro-Marmot, he doesn't speak. Not only is he blind, but also mute as well. He is not deaf, though he does have hearing problem, as seen in "Party Animal". Disaster follows his blind bumbling. He seems to love stuffed animals. His actions and character are that much like those of Mr. Magoo. In several instances, he is seen using another HTF character's severed head as if it were something else. He doesn't appear to have his driver's license revoked, since he has been seen driving (albeit not very well).

According to the commentary for Pitchin' Impossible, the Mole was originally supposed to be a James Bond-like secret agent with all kinds of spy gadgets around him but it was removed when the series was created. It was till the episode, Mole in the City, when his secret agent identity was explored. He also has an arch-nemesis known as The Rat, most likely because they both have careers in industrial espionage.

A running gag in the series is The Mole doing things that require vision such as reading a magazine or lighting a match to see in the dark. He usually has jobs that require good vision which in most episodes leads up to his and other characters deaths (Lumpy and Handy in particular). According to the commentary for Concrete Solution the writers do this just because they need something bad to happen and Mole (and Lumpy) is basically the worst person for almost any job, if they need the story to move normally is usually one of the other characters who does the job.

In the web shorts, The Mole rarely dies, and usually causes harm to the other HTF due to his blindness. In the TV series, he dies a lot more often, but he still survives a lot of episodes. His deaths usually involve either his head or loss of body parts. On his face, the mole actually has a mole.

Disco Bear

File:HappyTreeFriends-disco bear-1-.gif
Disco Bear

(Voiced by Peter Herrman) A golden male bear with an orange afro and two sideburns who likes to dance to disco music. He wears 1970s style clothing, including a yellow jacket, yellow bell-bottom pants and orange and white dancing platform shoes. He usually puts everyone around him into life-threatening trouble while dancing, but mistakes their movements of pain for funky dance moves. He is mostly seen either showing off or trying to impress other female characters, such as Giggles and Petunia and usually killing them in the process. Like many characters, his deaths usually involve his head; the others are random. In Rink Hijinks, he accidentally bumps Flaky into a floor buffer when he's trying to show off his roller skating skills. Despite his failures in wooing the ladies, he seems to be well off financially as he is seen with a private ski cabin in "Ski Ya, Wouldn't Wanna Be Ya", his fancy home (which looks like a bachelor pad decorated with the 1970s era furniture, modern art paintings, a heart-shaped bed, a hotel-like bathroom, and packs of romantic candles) in the TV series, a hot tub in Wishy Washy, a luxury car in Blind Date, a hairspraying-dryer chair in Easy Comb, Easy Go and his own submarine in Sea What I Found.

Disco Bear also has poor eating habits, eating hot dogs, eggs, bacon and other fatty foods, and moaning over vegetables, as seen in A Change of Heart and Ipso Fatso. Because of this, he gains weight, losing self-esteem, not being able to run that much, and having heart diseases, like a heart attack. Besides disco dancing, he's talented at rollerskating, downhill skiing, and throwing frisbees long distances.

It's been stated in several DVD commentaries and in the HTF forum that when the Internet series started most people in the staff (except for Rhode Montijo) didn't like Disco Bear because they found him annoying, Warren Graff has said that it wasn't till the TV series started that they began to like him.

Russell

File:Russell HTF.gif
Russell

(Voiced by Francis Carr (2006–)) Russell is a pastel green male Sea otter pirate with typical pirate accessories like a Jolly Roger's hat, a striped red/white shirt, a hook, an eyepatch and two wooden peglegs. He enjoys fishing, sailing and eating seafood, one of his animal instincts, especially mussels, which was why he was named Russell. He also likes kite flying and even runs his own fast-food restaurant (Mime to Five). Some fans mistook Russell for a cat because of his whiskers and his appetite for fish, but he's really a sea otter. His hook started off on his left hand, but later on, it is on the right hand for the rest of the series. Russell's initial character design depicted him with a five o'clock shadow, though since his early appearances, it seems as though he shaves regularly. He stopped having a five o'clock shadow since Get Whale Soon. Typically, his vocabulary consists only of "Yar", though in the episode Get Whale Soon, he also says things like 'Aha!' and 'Huh?' In the episode A Sight for Sore Eyes, he was heard apologizing to the Mole after he accidentally bumped into him.

Sometimes, when put in a scary or violent situation, Russell will go insane, will start laughing in a crazy manner, and his eye turns into the color of gray, as seen in Get Whale Soon. While insane, Russell looks somewhat similar to "flipped-out" Flippy. Because Russell spends most of his time in the water, he is rarely seen with the other characters, though he does appear in a few episodes with Lumpy, although nowadays he seems to appear with all the others as well. His deaths usually involve getting impaled.

From the episode, Sea What I Found, when Russell woke up and went to his closet to change his peglegs, it is evident that his legs are partially amputated. He is the second character to wear pants, and the second after Handy to have amputated limbs. Also, he's the fourth (& final) character without visible ears as seen in his Internet shorts introduction when he took his hat off for a few seconds. Russell wears a stripy undershirt when he goes to sleep. He lives in a big pirate ship shaped treehouse and sleeps on a hammock.

Lifty & Shifty

File:Lifty and shifty HTF.jpg
Lifty and Shifty

(Voiced by Mark Giambruno (2000–2005) and Kenn Navarro (2006–)) Two green kleptomaniac male identical twin racoon brothers. They frequently steal merchandise from the other Happy Tree Friends, as well as treasure hunting, ransacking houses or anything to get rich quick with the exception of Flaky, Cro-Marmot and Splendid. They have technically never stolen anything from Nutty, although they did trade him magical jellybeans for a cow.(which, ironically, they failed to steal from Lumpy in a previous episode.) They mostly steal from Lumpy - in Meat Me For Lunch they stole meat from Lumpy's deli mart, in Milkin' It they stole a cow from Lumpy's farm, in Concrete Solution they stole his wallet, and in Junk in the Trunk they abducted his pet elephant.

Although they have the same markings, bushy tails, personality and voice; Shifty wears a fedora, and he bosses Lifty around. It is unknown which of them is older and the other the younger. Despite the smirks on their faces and their kleptomania, they almost always end up perishing in the process. Their green color implies money and greed relating to their 'criminal duo' personalities. They also have a trademark evil snicker (usually a different one for further episodes). Like most siblings, Lifty and Shifty argue about who's fault is this, but when trouble's afoot, they work together. Both twins are pretty greedy and sometimes resort to seeing their twin die rather than give up their loot or be caught (it is unknown if Shifty does this all or if Lifty does too), as seen in Milkin' It when Shifty threw Lifty out the hot air balloon as not to get caught by the cable. And in "Sea What I Found" when Shifty had a chance to save Lifty, but instead he just stole his jewels. Their greed can also lead to their death, as in the episode As You Wish.

However, they do mix with other characters and contribute to recreational activities (such as going on a rollercoaster and participating in a Christmas play) without causing any trouble. Rarely they earn cash honestly and have even been heroic, such as in Happy Trails Part 2: Jumping the Shark, when they provided a life raft to help the characters escape from an island (the raft was later punctured by Flaky's quills and when swimming back to the island, Lifty and Shifty were dragged underwater and most likely eaten).

Lifty & Shifty have, on occasion, made money by themselves without stealing, such as selling dogs who get crazy when they hear whistling in Doggone It, and selling bottles of hair growth formula to Disco Bear in Easy Comb, Easy Go.

Mime

File:Mime.png
Mime

Voiced By Nica Lorber

A purple male deer with a painted face who wears a black/purple and white striped shirt.because he is a mime artist, causing others to have a hard time understanding him. Apparently, most of his possessions are imaginary yet can be stolen, as evidenced in "Easy For You To Sleigh". It was once said that he's mute, but in some episodes, like in "Happy Trails" and "Out of Sight, Out of Mime", he has made audible noises, making it evident that he can speak, he just doesn't choose to. He is talented with circus skills like juggling and creating balloon animals. His attempts to entertain his fellow Happy Tree Friends often have fatal consequences. Mime is also very fond of peanuts, going so far as to stick his hand in a blender to eat them. He is also a bit on the pudgy side (most noticeable in the opening credits for "Keepin' it Reel" when his picture pops up.) In "Mime and Mime Again" , "Out of Sight, Out of Mime" and "Class Act" (when everybody stands at the school you cen see the top of his tail), he had a tail. However later on, he doesn't have it anymore. He's slowly becoming a very popular character, appearing in more and more episodes in the TV series.

It has been argued whether Mime is a boy or a girl, however it can be seen that he is a male considering he has antlers, which in moose and deer, only males have.

Mime is usually seen riding a unicycle in "Party Animal", "Concrete Solution", "Who's to Flame?", "As You Wish!", "A Hole Lotta Love", "See What Develops", "Junk in the Trunk", and "Double Whammy". Sometimes, he stays seated on his unicycle throughout some of these episodes.

Mime is the only character who doesn't die in two TV episodes, "Who's to Flame?" and "Mime to Five", he starred in and didn't have co-stars. He could be portrayed as a juvenile deer judging by the size of his antlers. He lives in a tent, on which the inside looks like a regular house seen in "Easy for You to Sleigh", and "Mime to Five". He dies in quick and painless deaths more than any other character. Like many other characters' deaths, they involve his head.

Cro-Marmot

File:Cro-marmot.jpg
Cro-Marmot

Cro-Marmot is a prehistoric green male marmot frozen in a block of ice. He is somehow able to perform many tasks offscreen while entirely encased in ice, such as throwing snowballs, somewhat akin to how Handy can perform construction and other tasks without any visible hands. To keep himself frozen, Cro-Marmot stays mainly in cold areas, and sometimes drives an ice cream truck. He lives in a giant snow globe, or rather a small igloo inside a giant snow globe. His hobbies include serving people ice cream, snowboarding, and surfing. He rarely dies in the series, the reason being that the ice he's usually encased in protects him from disaster, thereby rendering him almost invulnerable to most unfortunate events. Also, most of his "deaths" are debatable.

The only episode in which he is not frozen is Dino-Sore Days, as that episode occurred during the prehistoric times when he was unfrozen. In Dino-Sore Days, he appeared as a black-and-white character similar to the classic Mickey Mouse cartoon; with white gloves, shoes and black limbs, bigger nose, and longer ears. In the opening of the irregular episode, it states that it was copyrighted in the year 1927. Cro-Marmot usually appears in the series as a background character, and has hardly any showcase appearances, but has been marked his first appearance bigger than a cameo since Snow What? That What! and Dino-Sore Days (either could be considered accurate) and in the episode, Wipe Out. In a featurette of the Second Serving DVD, he was interviewed, and it was revealed he's an accomplished writer, painter, and pianist, and he has his own brand of foot powder, known for his loud antics and energetic performances, and has been called the "sexiest Happy Tree Friend" in 1992. However, since the interviewer was unable to get any responses out of Cro-Marmot, she got into a violent rant with the creators.

Cro-Marmot is the second character to have a full head of hair besides Disco Bear. Also, besides Lumpy and Sniffles, he is the third character in the series without a set of buckteeth, with just one tooth on the bottom part of his jaw. The first part of his name is depicted from the word, Cro-Magnon.

Even though he made a cameo in the episode, Tongue Twister Trouble, it was actually his official debut in the series. It also makes him the only HTF character to have a debut episode where he wasn't a starring character until.

Flippy

File:Flippy torpedo.jpg
Flippy

((Voiced by Kenn Navarro (2006–))) a pale green male bear with dog tags and green berret with checkered crest. There is evidence to suggest that he fought in the Vietnam War, particularly his obsession with making booby traps inspired by the Viet Cong, as well as a flashback of his experience of being held captive by them (as seen in Easy for You to Sleigh). In addition, his attire seems to resemble to the U.S. Army Special Forces, which played a role during the Vietnam War. According to writer Warren Graff, Flippy is mostly based on John Rambo.

Flippy has a severe case of post traumatic stress disorder. Whenever he sees or hears something that reminds him of war (e.g., gunshot-like sounds or crackling campfires), he goes insane and kills everyone around him, believing that he is still in war. While insane, several physical features about him change: his eyes turn a different color, usually green or yellow, his voice changes from high and cute to low and evil, and his teeth become sharp. In the early Internet shorts, his teeth become crooked. It seems his mental disorder takes control of him, and it assumes in the form of an evil Flippy or, perhaps more appropriately, "Flipped-Out" Flippy.

Flippy shows superb efficiency with many of his military weapons. He uses them regularly when killing the other characters, but for some reason, favors his large Rambo-esque bowie knife and sometimes uses grenades. He also used a helicopter to try to kill Lumpy in Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow. He also has a display of valuable armor and other war-related objects in his home as seen in Easy For You To Sleigh. All these military features are likely to be reference to Rambo.

Happy Trails Part 2: Jumping the Shark is the only episode in which Flippy appears prominently without going berserk and killing everyone. This is because Pop was supposed to be in the episode instead of Flippy (this is why he has Pop's voice in the episode). Although he did kill Flaky, that was out of anger for accidentally ruining their chances to escape, and Sniffles, Lumpy, and Handy helped him kill her(but Flippy looks and sounds like he has flipped out when he's marking Flaky's grave).

Flippy rarely appears in the series, most likely due to his repetitive behavior in most of the episodes in which he appears. Despite this, he is considered a fan favorite and is possibly the most popular character in the series. In the Internet shorts, Flippy rarely dies, but he died in 3 of the 5 TV episodes in which he appeared. When he does die, half of his deaths have involved explosions. He also seems to die quick, painless deaths. Flippy's personal kill count is lower than Lumpy's (55 to 118), but nonetheless impressive considering that he has made only a fraction of the appearances Lumpy has in the series.

Flippy, like Cuddles, Nutty and Lumpy, has an account on the MySpace website where it mentions that he enjoys jogging, feeding birds, eating chocolate chip cookies, and sewing.

Flippy has killed all the characters at least once, except for Splendid, and probably Cro-Marmot. He hasn't killed Pop & Cub intentionally (although this is debatable, since Flippy could have seen them and dealt with them by using a grenade, explaining the explosion that killed them). For some reason, whenever he flips out, he usually kills Toothy first such as in Hide and Seek and Party Animal. He normally kills first a character with a tail (Cuddles, Toothy, Petunia, Mime, Lifty & Shifty). The only episode in which he doesn't kill anyone while "flipped-out" is in Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow. He attempts to kill Lumpy several times, but changes back and saves Lumpy, but ends up killing himself and Cuddles by his helicopter in the process.

Although Flippy can be the most cruel and dangerous character in Happy Tree Friends, his good side is considered to be one of the most sociable and kindest of characters. This is proven in several of episodes where he is seen doing social activities with some of the other characters such as going to the movies and playing hide and seek (though he usually partakes of activities alone, he is on friendly terms with every other character and appears to be well-liked). Basically, in most of the episodes where he appears, he is shown as friendly and social before he goes crazy, or should many people say "flipping-out."

Also, you can see that when he "flips-out", he does not remember the bloody rampage that follows. However, in Double Whammy, (and possibly starting from Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow when he resists his evil side for the first time) he finally realizes his problem and goes to Lumpy the psychiatrist for answers. Two attempts at calming himself down were failures (first one was meditation, and the second one was a stress squishy toy) but the third was hypnotism, which ended in Lumpy thinking he's a chicken and Flippy fighting his flipped-out self (in which several Matrix and Rambo parodies ensued). The episode itself is possibly a reference to Fight Club or Bruce Banner and his struggle with The Incredible Hulk. Nowadays, he is apparently learning how to control his evil side, since he can be surprised and be handed sharp objects like a cake cutter and he gets fascinated by them without "flipping out".

The only character Flippy has tried to murder but failed is Lumpy. He attempted to eliminate Lumpy in the episodes, Remains to be Seen and Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow. In Double Whammy, just as Flippy was about to flip-out in Lumpy's office, Lumpy drenched him with water to snap him out of it. So far, Flippy has failed thrice to try to kill Lumpy. However, he did kill Lumpy once in Keepin' it Reel, but it was done off-screen as the episode ended.

Flippy seems to enjoy tasting blood like a cannibal (In Flippin' Burgers, he sauces a fry in Cuddles blood. In Party Animal, he unknowingly drank Mime's blood from a blender pitcher. In Easy For You to Sleigh, after he mutilates Shifty with a Christmas tree cookie used as a bowie knife, he bites it with Shifty's blood on it). The Mole has also eaten other characters, but only by accident, while Flippy did it for the thrill of it.

Flippy also has an allergy to either nuts or an allergy venison(deer meat)which is prominent at the end of "Party Animal" when he unintentionaly drinks Mime's blood that has a mixture of monkey nuts in the beaker.

It's not usually Flippy's fault he flips out. Usually the thing that causes him to flip out is caused by haywiring or another character(the woodpecker in Hide And Seek, Flaky's quills and the balloons in Party Animal). Some of his flip-outs(such as Party Animal) are caused by a disorder or disease from another character. There are some occasions when Flippy is about to flip out, but is almost immeadtely stopped(Party Animal, Double Whammy). It's then usually that character's fault that he does flip out.

It has been announced that Flippy will be one of the three playable characters in the XBOX 360 video game, Happy Tree Friends: False Alarm.

Splendid

File:Splendid fly.jpg
Splendid

(Voiced by Rhode Montijo (2000–2004) and David Winn (2006–)) A pale blue superhero male flying squirrel. He is largely based on Superman; he can fly (though most likely solely due to his wings), shoot laser beams from his eyes, has super strength, supersonic hearing, can turn back time and can breathe ice. He is often seen doing housework until he hears a character that needs to be rescued. His appearance is somewhat based on Rocky J. Squirrel from Rocky & Bullwinkle.

The irony of Splendid being a superhero is that he often unintentionally kills the characters he rescues (Giggles in particular). This is usually either because of his ignorance or even his own powers. Most of the time, he is oblivious to the other characters deaths. He often flies away without checking to see if the other characters are actually safe with the exception of the episode, Helping Helps. However, in Gems the Breaks, he purposely killed 3 characters (The Mole, Lifty & Shifty). In From Hero to Eternity he killed, or caused to die, every character, with the exception of Disco Bear, Mime, Pop, and Flippy. He believes that being a superhero is such a pain in the neck.

Splendid isn't featured in either the TV or Internet series a whole lot due to his repetitive trend of killing the characters he rescues. Whenever he appears, he is usually the character the episode revolves around with the exception of Class Act.

Some think that Splendid did not die in the Internet shorts. This all depends on whether the fans assume or not that Splendid was killed in the schoolhouse explosion in Class Act, but the creators say that every character has surely died, either in the school explosion, or the forest fire that would be caused. (You can see Splendid fly in when everyone is hurt outside.) His only confirmed death was in one of the TV episodes where he was overexposed to his one and only superhero weakness: Kryptonut, it looks like a green glowing acorn, except it's made out of rock - a reference to Superman's Kryptonite weakness. Not only will the Kryptonut make him lose his powers, but it'll also make him vomit continuously and give him the stomach flu. Because of this, it is unlikely that Splendid will die again, unless Kryptonut is featured again.
