Thank you very much for your much appreciated support in the recently concluded September 2008 Military History Wikiproject Coordinator Elections. I was thoroughly surprised to walk away with a position of Coordinator. Thank-you for your support, and I assure you that I will do my best to serve this spectacular project well. I never had a problem with the guy really, I just got kind of frustrated that after it all died down he raked it up again. (I figured he wasn't doing himself any favours.) As you can see from recent events, none his fault, there has been a deliberate attempt to implicate him again. Thats the sock puppeteers style, he tries to involve editors he thinks might be sympathetic to him. Justin talk 15:42, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Cheers Ed
I haven forgotten about Shannara. I've been chilling from Wikipedia and have a massive deadline to make at work, plus we are moving house in a few weeks (lots of prep involved). Its an unkanny coincidence that I browsed my talk page yesterday and found some comments from the sock. Unkanny more so because its the second time, from memory, that I have looked at a page after a break to find fresh comments by him/her. Cheers Romaioi (talk) 16:00, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Oof. Good luck, my friend, with all of the RL events....
- Don't worry about Shannara article here on Wikipedia until you've taken care of all of that...Wikipedia will be here after you move! (Don't feel bad because you said that you would help and you can't; RL events take precedence over Wiki matters, I know.) Cheers! —the_ed17— 17:07, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hey mate, cheers again. Looks like I managed to find time to do some stuff yesterday anyway. I was left to take care of the bub for the day and got lots of practice typing with one hand. In regards to Justin's comments above. He certainly means well, I agree, but there has been a persistent mischaracterisation of my actions and unacknowledgment of all evidence that clearly shows that I did not do what others say (including the small things such as reverting sock edits). False accusations, WQAs, ANI's, MFQ's etc have been equally frustrating for me. Particularly when most of my contributions have been in the form of adding citations, references and the like. Justin was certainly right about me being in the wrong place at the wrong time - it was a matter if that and the accuser not looking closely enough. One of the topics that the socks keep harping about is one that does need addressing. Unfortunately, the behaviour of the socks has severely tarnished the topic. Equally unfortunately, others who may know something about the topic and attempt to contribute run the risk of automatically being labelled as socks themselves. Whilst Justin justifiably feels that the socks are responsible for most of the grief I experienced, I feel that they are only partly responsible (their "attempts to implicate" me were plainly obvious). Most of the responsibility lies squarely with my accuser. At any rate, I am certainly happy that Justin has his eye on the latest attempts of the socks - it will prevent a third accusation against myself. Cheers Romaioi (talk) 11:19, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, just don't worry about sockpuppets anymore. =) Just go out and have fun on articles that you take an interest in! If you keep focused on those accusations, it will slowly begin to ruin your 'life' on Wikipedia... Anyway, good luck with the kid :D and I hope to talk to you soon! Cheers, —the_ed17— 19:22, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
It's OK. He can remove his warnings. All he's gonna do for 72 hours. Unless someone extend the block, of course. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 23:54, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Carrier Air Wing Six
Please make sure the tables in Carrier Air Wing Six have cites, so I can award it GA. Wandalstouring (talk) 08:36, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hello, ed7! Hope all is well. I have revised the tables in Carrier Air Wing Six with the appropriate footnote citations.Marcd30319 (talk) 18:38, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Operation Strikeback/GA1 Review
Thanks for the heads-up! I am wading through the GA1 review. Most of the issues I am confident of resolution, but I am concerned about the citation issues for the warship lists. I get in touch when I get to that stage. Marcd30319 (talk) 18:38, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, just tell me where I can help, and I'll be there. Cheers! —the_ed17— 18:45, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Edits to USS West Gate (ID-3216)
Thanks for catching the missing s in your edit to USS West Gate (ID-3216). I beg to differ, however, on the applicability of WP:OVERLINK to the word materiel. As I'm sure you are aware, materiel is a specialized term that, while familiar to those of use who edit and write military history articles, is not necessarily familiar to non-MH readers. I've found in articles that I've written and/or those that I watch, that when it is not linked, it often gets "corrected" by well-meaning editors who confuse it for a typo of the word material. By the way, if you're using a script to look for overlinks, I'd suggest removing materiel from the list. — Bellhalla (talk) 11:37, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Okay! =) Thanks for not just changing it back without telling me, because I would have kept de-linking materiel whenever I saw it! :D But no, I'm not using a script; I just remove terms whenever I see them, so occasionally I may be wrong... Cheers! —the_ed17— 16:59, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't want to interject myself into this discussion, but the use of materiel is approprite when used in conjunction with the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy; when used with the U.S. Navy, the appropriate term is material. Marcd30319 (talk) 11:03, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- In the context of this article, where "West Gate took on 6,700 tons of cargo that included locomotives, steel rails, and other materiel for the United States Army …", I believe that the correct word is being employed, though I'm not sure I understand the distinction in your remarks. — Bellhalla (talk) 12:17, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- Very good point. BTW - the article is excellent. Marcd30319 (talk) 17:49, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Carrier Air Wing Six has been nominated for a good article reassessment. Articles are typically reviewed for one week. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to good article quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, the good article status will be removed from the article. Reviewers' concerns are here. —Mattisse (Talk) 17:31, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- The ed17, I have addressed the above concerns to the best of my ability. Cold you review and as needed, do any clean-up for the fotnotes? Thanks! Marcd30319 (talk) 21:35, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Many thanks for your assistance. I read the latest GA reassessment comments. It looks like that Mattisse is not persuaded by the expanded narrative or the coninued incorporation of the extant tables and lists. Do you want to pull the trigger for the WP:GAR review? - Armor? I don't think I changed it, but I'd've relied on Fitzsimons as cited. Not to say that can't be wrong... (His tech editor was Anthony Preston, who I'd rely on generally.) The NYT piece does contradict, but I frankly would want a better source, say Jane's, before changing it; mainstream media aren't notorious for getting tech specs right, especially so far back. - It scares me that you know my real nickname...are you going to stalk me with that knowledge now? :)
- Not yet. I used some ysalamiri to hide from the Darth yesterday....but it's only a matter of time... =/ —the_ed17— 04:04, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- Ooo...massive violation of WP:BEANS. *dons camouflage and scours internet for "Eddies" in Michigan*
- Oh, Eddie's a bad name, though, don't you think? You could be confused with this eddy or, even worse, this Eddie. —La Pianista (T•C•S•R) 04:11, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- Not talking? Aw...I'm wounded! *staggers away pitifully*
- What? *BOOM*

- AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
- RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!
- Where is the Holy Hand Grenade? We must kill this evil black-clad monster!
- On a side note, why a "boom"? Wouldn't it be a "shhhhhhrrrooom" as he activated his lightsaber? —the_ed17— 04:42, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- All right, sue me. I never was a fan of Star Wars, so how would I know? :) Meh. —La Pianista (T•C•S•R) 04:46, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- All right, you got me...I never watched it. *gasps from all around* I was too busy admiring and watching teh awesomest piano pwner I ever saw and dedicating my life to replicating his awesomeness. :D :D :D Just remember: I'm not a space geek; I'm a musique geeque. ;) —La Pianista (T•C•S•R) 04:52, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

- *GASP* nooooo... You've never seen it? BLASPHEMY! Seriously though, you have to see them! They are "staple" movies!!! Holy cow... =)
- Ooooo special pianist. Well, I guess that everyone has their own tastes and interests... (no, I don't really like classical, thank you xD...I happen to like "Piano Man" by Billy Joel though!
- Good night! I'm going to bed too...1:15 a.m. here =/ ...but I'll try to spread the idiocy!
- I was wondering if you were going to see that edit summary... —the_ed17— 05:02, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- No classical, eh? I getcha - I used to be ambivalent about it, too. But...now, I hate to sound like those evangelicals who try to convert every secularist they see, but have a looksee at my favorite piece ever. You may or may not like it, but I'm curious to see what you think. Tell me your honest opinion afterward, please. :) And you can also tell me if I'm being a pushover for this... —La Pianista (T•C•S•R) 19:55, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
(outdent) :D Pretty cool. Not something I listen to every day, but every once in awhile it is awesome to hear that. Amazing how people can ecen play that! O.O No, you aren't being a pushover—if you like classical, you will probably like that. =) —the_ed17— 21:23, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

- my original comment, left on Kevin's talkpage
"Seeing the interests of the_ed17 above it would be nice to co-ordinate with WP:MILHIST more and maybe get a joint military novel / short story literature task force on the cards." Hmm not a bad idea! There are a lot of military history novels...Tom Clancy comes to the forefront of my mind, with Dale Brown, Alistair MacLean, Stephen Coonts and Joseph Heller next in line..... [and we might get more interest in WP:NOVELS... :)] Anyway, cheers! —the_ed17— 15:46, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
If you think this is a good notion how best do you think we should go about it. Does MilHist have any similar group currently. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 15:52, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- I've got class now; I'll reply in an hour. Cheers! —the_ed17— 15:53, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, class got out early. MILHIST does have a similar group...I didn't think so, but then I spotted the War Films task force they share with the Films WikiProject. —the_ed17— 16:40, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- So we would need to promote the idea of a War fiction task force or something closely similar. Needs to be named to be a conjuction of the two projects interests. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 16:46, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- My thinking was to include all lengths of fictional narrative prose, inclusive of short stories, novellas and novels etc. Also "novels" are nearly always treated as fiction so both would be "almost" redundant. Unfortunately naming is important so we should get it right first time if we can. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 19:48, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Bloody Murder, Part 2
The Discussion (not part of episode)
All right...so what have we got here? How about this episode be centered on edit summaries? Since, of course, they are only used for the most serious of occasions. :D :D :D —La Pianista (T•C•S•R) 01:36, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

The episode
Ed, I need help! Oh, someone save me! My head has imploded out of pure frustration! The automatic edit summary mechanism in my preferences didn't work, and my last edit went unsummarized!
