High School Musical 2 is the soundtrack album for the Disney Channel Original Movie of the same name. It was released on August 13, 2007 in the UK, New Zealand, South America and Asia, and on August 14, 2007 in the U.S. It was then released on September 8 in Australia.

Debuting at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, Amazon.com, and iTunes Store, the album sold 615,000 copies in its initial week of release. As of September 2007, this figure amounted to the fourth-biggest first week sales of the year.[2] It is the first soundtrack of a television movie to debut at the Billboard summit.[3] The album also shipped double platinum (2,000,000) copies in the U.S. in its first week of release.[4] The album debuted on the Billboard 200 charts at #1 and remained at #1 for four consecutive weeks. In its tenth week, the album is still part of the top ten tier.

The album has sold 2 million copies worldwide in just eight weeks.[5]

High School Musical 2 Non-Stop Dance Party

Walt Disney Records will be releasing another High School Musical 2 Album. However, the tracklisting has not been released yet. Although, there was a rumor that there will be a 2-Disc Special Edition Soundtrack Of High School Musical 2. However, that rumor was not true. But, the album cover of this album is to be found at Amazon.CA. The album will be out on December 26, 2007. In Canada, the album is to be sold at $17.99. What time is it? It's time to party non-stop with this fabulous CD featuring the complete High School Musical 2 soundtrack remixed into one continuous dance mix.

Chart performance

The album was the number-one most downloaded album on iTunes and Amazon.com on its first day of release, and remained so a week later.[6][7]

The album debuted at #1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 with sales of 615,000 copies, the fourth best first-week sales of 2007 (trailing behind Linkin Park's Minutes to Midnight, 50 Cent's Curtis, and Kanye West's Graduation).[2] The set also claims the biggest first-week sales for a television soundtrack.[8] It remained at number-one in its second, third, and fourth weeks, selling 367,000 copies in its second, 210,000 copies in its third, and 165,000 copies in its fourth.[9][10][11] The soundtrack is the first album in over two years to spend four consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200.[11]

The set debuted at the summit of the United World Chart with sales of 683,000 copies, and has sold over 3 million copies worldwide since.[12]

After spending four consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard 200, the album dropped to number four, following the releases of 50 Cent's Curtis, Kanye West's Graduation, and Kenny Chesney's Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates.[13]

In its tenth week on the charts, the album is still part of the top ten tier, coming in at number seven.

Indian Version

Times Music from India Launched a special Hindi 2-disc special Soundtrack of the original High School Musical 2 Soundrack . It contains an extra special disc with three special inspired songs from the famous music director trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy. These included All for One(Aaaja Nachle), Ud Chale and Chhoti Si. These inspired songs were also remixed by DJ Suketu. The original English song were dubbed and sang by famous singers including Sunidhi Chauhan and Shaan. The Soundtrack was available from October 26, 2007 and the movie in Hindi will air on Disney Channel India on December 9, 2007.
