Rounders is a 1998 film about the underground world of high-stakes poker. Directed by John Dahl and starring Matt Damon and Edward Norton, the movie follows two friends who need to quickly earn enough cash playing poker to pay off a huge debt. The term "rounder" refers to a person whose sole means of earning a living is by playing cards.

The movie opened to mixed reviews and made only a modest amount of money. However, with the growing popularity of Texas hold 'em and other poker games, Rounders has become a cult hit.

Plot
Rounders is about a former rounder, Mike McDermott (Matt Damon), who is torn between a commitment to his girlfriend Jo (Gretchen Mol) to concentrate on his law school studies and his loyalty to best friend Les "Worm" Murphy (Edward Norton). Just out of prison, Worm has a large gambling debt. He slowly convinces Mike to use his poker playing skills to help him pay it off, permanently damaging Mike's relationship with Jo and putting both men's lives at risk.

Cyrus remained the singer and the lead guitarist. Musso became the group's main singer and rhythm guitarist.
Rounders began filming in December 1997 and was set mostly in New York, with the notable exception being that the law school scenes were filmed at Rutgers Law School in Newark, New Jersey.

Metro Station soon gained the attention of percussionist Anthony Improgo, who was later added as the band's drummer, after the group released the song "Seventeen Forever", on their MySpace Music website. Musso sang lead on the track. The group's popularity on MySpace Music grew, and the band eventually topped the MySpace Music Unsigned Band's charts.

Despite an unremarkable theatrical release, Rounders has gone on to become somewhat of a cult classic, particularly amongst poker enthusiasts. In an interesting chicken or the egg situation, some speculate the film is directly responsible for the recent increase in the popularity of Texas hold 'em, while others believe that the substantial increase in the popularity of poker has nothing to do with the movie Rounders, but that same increase does have everything to do with the come-lately increase in the popularity of the film, so many years after its theatrical release.

In the July 2007 issue of music magazine Alternative Press, Metro Station was listed as one of the "22 Best Underground Bands (That Likely Won't Stay Underground for Long)".

Metro Station released their self-titled debut studio album in September 2007, the album had two singles released, "Kelsey" and "Control" both failed to chart, although with higher sales of the album both became more popular. The song has peaked at #3 on Hot Digital Songs, #9 in the Pop 100, #10 in the Billboard Hot 100 and also at #20 in the Hot Dance Airplay chart.<ref name=chartsingles>{{cite web|url=

Metro Station

Metro Station is a pop band that formed in Los Angeles, California. In late 2006, the band signed a recording contract with Columbia/Red Ink.[2] They are perhaps best known for their Top 10 Billboard hit single "Shake It" [3] from their self-titled debut album. Popularized mainly by their co-frontman Trace Cyrus, half brother to Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus, this music act has experienced a recent boom in their record sales.

History

In 2006 the mothers of Trace Cyrus and Mason Musso introduced them to each other on the set of Hannah Montana which stars Mason's brother, Mitchel, and Trace's sister, Miley. Sharing musical interests, they decided to form a band.[4] Shortly thereafter, Cyrus recruited Blake Healy from Synthetic Joy as a keyboardist, synthesist, and bassist. Cyrus remained the singer and the lead guitarist. Musso became the group's main singer and rhythm guitarist.

Metro Station was discovered by an intern working for Columbia Records' Walking Eye program, after the intern discovered the band while looking through the MySpace Music charts and the group were signed shortly thereafter.[5]

In the July 2007 issue of music magazine Alternative Press, Metro Station was listed as one of the "22 Best Underground Bands (That Likely Won't Stay Underground for Long)".[6]

Metro Station released their self-titled debut studio album in September 2007, the album had two singles released, "Kelsey" and "Control" both failed to chart, although with higher sales of the album both became more popular. It wasn't until mid-2008 when the release of the single "Shake It" grabbed the band a significant amount of commercial exposure, peaking in the top-ten of three US charts. The song has peaked at #3 on Hot Digital Songs, #9 in the Pop 100, #10 in the Billboard Hot 100 and also at #20 in the Hot Dance Airplay chart.[3] The success of the song also affected album sales, the album charting nine months later in 2008 at #43 in the Billboard 200, #1 Top Electronic Albums and #2 in the Top Heatseekers.[7]

The group has toured with numerous bands such as We The Kings, Boys Like Girls, Valencia, Cobra Starship, and Good Charlotte. Over the summer Metro Station toured as one of the special guest acts along with The Maine for the Soundtrack of Your Summer Tour 2008[8] a tour that was co-headlined by Boys Like Girls and Good Charlotte. The band also opened for other groups such as Simple Plan.
