We the Kings is an American power pop band from Bradenton , Florida. With their album of the same name, they reached number 151 on the Billboard 200 in 2007 . Their second studio album was released in December 2009. Since then, the group has been on a variety of tours. On July 5, 2011, their 3rd studio album was released with the title "Sunshine State of Mind", with which they achieved major commercial success for the first time. They have been touring even more since then and appear as the opening act at music festivals and tours for other bands (such as Simple Plan ).

They also have a web series on YouTube called The King's Carriage that gives fans a glimpse into the band's life.

history

Travis Clark, Hunter Thomsen, his brother Drew Thomsen and Danny Duncan had been friends since childhood and formed their band in high school, which became We the Kings in 2003 .

Under the direction of their manager Hunter Thomsen, the four released some of their songs in 2007 on the social network Purevolume , while a record deal was negotiated with S-Curve Records . In 2005 We the Kings released their debut album of the same name, which was produced by Sam Hollander, who had previously worked for Gym Class Heroes and Plain White T’s . Four years later the second studio album Smile Kid followed . In 2011 the 3rd studio album was released, called Sunshine State of Mind . It reached the 45th place in the American charts.

Tours

The band's first tour was with the band “Don't Die Cindy”, which took place in 2005 under the old name of the band De Soto . In autumn 2005 they went on tour with the then unknown band Boys Like Girls . We the Kings were also featured on the Long Hair Don't Care tour , where they performed with Valencia , The Cab , Sing it Loud and Charlotte Sometimes , which took place in March and April 2006. In May and June of this year, they opened up for Cute Is What We Aim For and Boys Like Girls on their tour of Great Britain.

In the fall of 2007, they performed on a tour called Tourzilla with Boys Like Girls , All Time Low and The Audition . We the Kings also appeared on all shows on the 2008 Warped Tour. On August 30, 2008, they played after a Tampa Bay Rays game on the field and thus became part of the Rays Summer Concert Series . After the Warped Tour ended, they toured the UK and the United States with The Academy Is ...

In February 2009 they went on the Secret Valentine Tour with The Maine , The Cab , There for Tomorrow and VersaEmerge . In 2009 they were also part of the 2009 Baboozle Roadshow Tour , during which they toured across the United States. Forever the Sickest Kids , The Cab, Never Shout Never and Mercy Mercedes were also represented on this tour . On July 8th, 2009 they started their tour with All Time Low , Cartel and Days Difference . They also played on the Warped Tour again.

In March 2010, We The Kings opened up for You Me at Six on their tour of the UK. They were also represented on the Warped Tour again. In April 2010, the band played a benefit concert with the pop-punk band Voted Most Random in New Haven, Connecticut . Thousands of dollars were raised for the ClearWater Initiative at this concert, which is also the largest donation to the organization to date. In February 2011 they went on their first own tour of the UK, where they gave 10 concerts. Some of the concerts, such as the one in Manchester, were sold out. In the same month they also had a few gigs in the Philippines with The Maine and Never Shout Never . In April 2011 they went on tour through Australia . Supporting acts on this tour were again The Maine and Never Shout Never. The concerts in Melbourne and Sydney were sold out. Following the release of the single Friday Is Forever , they went on the tour named after the same. The Summer Set , The Downtown Fiction , Hot Chelle Rae and Action Item also played on this tour .

In early 2012 We The Kings were on tour through Europe with Simple Plan , performing in Spain, Finland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Hungary, Serbia, Italy, Portugal and the UK. In June 2012, the band toured eastern Australia again with Simple Plan. We The Kings were also back on stage on the Warped Tour.

Awards

In 2008, We the Kings were nominated for their studio album of the same name at the MTV Video Music Awards in the “Best New Artist” category and their work won the “Top In Rock Awards” in the “Best Pop Punk Artist” category. They were also nominated for their single “We'll Be a Dream” in 2010 at the Teen Choice Awards in the “Choice Hook Up” category.
