history

The beginnings

Cute Is What We Aim For was founded in January 2005 as a side project by Cherry Bing singer Shaant Hacikyan and guitarist Jeff Czum, along with their cousin and A New Hope band member Fred Cimato and Tom Falcone on rhythm guitar and drums .

The band name came about during a phone call between Cimato and Hacikyan when Hacikyan asked him for a "cool" band name. In English they used the word “cute”, which colloquially means “cool” in the USA .

The Same Old Blood Rush with a New Touch

On June 20, 2006, the debut album The Same Old Blood Rush with a New Touch was released in the US and went to number 75 on the Billboard 200 in the first week . With 13,651 albums sold in the first week, they broke the Panic! at the Discos A Fever You Cant Sweat Out from 2005 by 4,000 albums. In January 2007 the album had already sold 94,410 times. Her first single There's a Class for This by director Jay Martin had a video premiere on July 17, 2006 on mtvU. In February 2007, the second single The Curse of Curves appeared on the American market.

On April 4, 2007, the band announced the departure of guitarist Jack Marin, who had only just been in the band for six months. Fred Cimato, who had to leave the band 7 months ago for personal reasons, replaced him. In an interview in October 2007 he was asked if he sees his role in the band as a long-term arrangement again. “In any case, staying in the band is a long-term arrangement. I had 7 months at home to graduate from high school . After this time, I realized how much I missed music. I was overjoyed that I got this chance again. "

The third release from the album is the single Newport Living by director Dylan Steinberg, who put together a cut of over 15 hours of footage of the band members on tour and a concert in Chicago . The video was released on October 29, 2007. In addition, the current record company of Cute Is What We Aim For Fueled By Ramen released a re-release of the album The Same Old Blood Rush with a New Touch on November 20, 2007 as an MVI version, with bonus songs, videos and pictures of the band.

After the end of the Young Wild Things tour in 2007 with Fall Out Boy , Gym Class Heroes and the Plain White T’s through 19 American cities, the band took a break to work on their second album.

rotation

The first rumors about the new title of the second album arose after singer Hacikyan wrote Don't Be So Scared on one of his blogs . In mid-March 2008 bassist Fred Cimato left the band, Dave Melillo stepped in to replace him and was an official member of the band from that moment on. On March 19, 2008, the album was ready according to the band's official website. On April 21, 2008, it was announced in the forum and on the website of the official Cute Is What We Aim For fan club called The Social Scene that the final album title would be rotation .

The first single from rotation called Practice Makes Perfect premiered on April 21, 2008 in the MTV series The Hills . The music video for it was shot in Los Angeles on May 22, 2008 and premiered on MTV2's 'Unleashed' in the US. The album Rotation was released on June 24, 2008 in the USA. In the first week, 22,000 copies were sold, so the album debuted at number 21 on the Billboard Top 200.

Unclear situation

On Tuesday, August 18th, 2009 singer Shaant Hacikyan announced the end of the band because he would like to start a solo project in the future. Dave Melillo and Jeff Czum then left the band.

Jeff, Dave and Mike formed a new band called Nocturnal Me.

Reunion

Shaant Hacikyan plays with Cute Is What We Aim For, as part of a new line-up, the "CIWWAF - Spring Tour 2010", among others with The Friday Night Boys. To this end, a new single called Harbor was also released. The band's Myspace page, as well as a recently published interview, indicate that the upcoming tour is to be seen as a reunion of the band and Shaant wants to continue this project in the future. He also defined the separation of the band on August 18, 2009 as the cause of his alcohol addiction at the time.
