Tess of the D'Urbervilles is a 4-part British TV adaptation of Thomas Hardy's book of the same name. The script is by David Nicholls.[1] It tells the story of Tess Durbeyfield, a low-born country girl whose family find they have noble connections. The series commenced on September 14 2008 and is scheduled to run until October 5 2008.
The cast includes Gemma Arterton as Tess, Hans Matheson as Alec, Eddie Redmayne as Angel, Ruth Jones as Joan, Anna Massey as Mrs d'Urberville and Kenneth Cranham as Rev Clare.[2]

the story is set in the heat of the english countryside and is based upon a pure, true to heart girl. however, nothing seems to go right for her as the story progresses with the main focus upon the terrible deeds that the men in the story behave towards her.
It has been said that Thomas Hardy has written these tragedies in reminiscent of his true to life story of his marriage.
