Anna Raymond Massey , CBE (born August 11, 1937 in Thakeham , West Sussex , † July 3, 2011 in London , England ), was a British actress .

Life

Massey's film career began in 1958 with the film Gideon's Day . In her second film Peeping Tom , which caused a scandal at the time, she played Helen. For her participation in the film Being Serious Is Everything , she was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1983 . In 2005, Massey was awarded the Order of the British Empire by Elizabeth II . More recently, Massey has been seen in films such as The Machinist or in a supporting role in The Oxford Murders at the side of Elijah Wood and John Hurt .

Her parents, Raymond Massey and Adrianne Allen , were also actors. Her older brother was the actor Daniel Massey . Her uncle Vincent Massey was Governor General of Canada from 1952 to 1959 . Anna Massey married a second time in 1990. From her first marriage to Jeremy Brett , with whom she was married from 1958 to 1962, comes the writer David Huggins . She died of complications from cancer.
