action
The painter Dean Greely is found murdered near his houseboat. Lewis investigates and comes across a group called "The Sons of the Twice Born ". As students, they had dedicated themselves to the intoxicatingly vital Dionysian , as a practical implementation of Nietzsche's ideas . Greely was a member of this clique, which is said to have been a heavy drug user. With the help of Prof. Gold, whom Lewis had already visited during his time at Inspector Morse, a list can be deciphered: the meaningless sequences of Greek letters are telephone numbers. This is how the other members of the group become known: University professor Linn, the noble Platt and the bicycle seller Bundrick. Platt in particular shows great contempt for weakness, compassion, in keeping with Nietzsche's spirit.
During the investigation, Linn behaves particularly conspicuously, who is also shot shortly afterwards. Now Lewis and Hathaway focus the investigation on Platt, as Bundrick is said to have loved Linn, according to Gold. They also track down the prostitute Tina Daniels, who has made threatening phone calls to Linn and Bundrick under the name “Fury” in the past few days and works as a domestic help for the Platts. They find out that it is a campaign of revenge by Daniels and Theodore Platts wife Anne Sadikov. Because the "sons of the twice-born" once wanted to get the perfect drug adrenochrome , which comes from the human adrenal gland . Platt murdered a prostitute, Tina's best friend and Anne's mother to get adrenochrome. Bundrick regretted the act and Linn fled. But Platt enjoyed the drug to the fullest. So Tina and Anne manipulated the group within and got them to kill each other.
Before Lewis and Hathaway even arrive, Anne's dogs tear up Platt. At the end of the episode, Anne's mother's body is recovered.
