The murder plot (original title: Old School Ties ) is the third episode of the crime series Lewis - Der Oxford Krimi .

action

Lewis and Hathaway are used as police “bodyguards” for bestselling author Nicky Turnbull, who received mysterious death threats. The former prisoner and ex- hacker comes to Oxford to hold an event for a student club on the subject of his discovery book. The lecturer's hotel, where he meets the club's committee, is a converted former prison. In the evening, “Nicky” is still in the lobby with the young women Caroline and Jo, the next morning Jo is strangled, and in the bed next to her lies an unused revolver that she recently received as a birthday present. The hotel room where the act took place is booked in the name of Inspector Lewis, another publicity measure for the book and the author, as it later emerges.

The investigation goes on, and then comes the unexpected turning point: When Nicky Turnbull has just admitted to Lewis that the requested police protection was just a publicity gag and he had received no threats, he was fatally hit by a bullet - right in front of the hotel entrance . First up, the prime suspect is Nicky's wife, Diane, an old school friend of Lewis because Nicky was seeking a divorce. However, Hathaway finds out that Turnbull's criminal activities also affected a college in which David Harvey's father worked as an accountant, who then felt responsible for the financial damage. David Harvey, the ex-boyfriend of Jo Gilchrist, has avenged the death of his father, who committed suicide because of the affair, with the fatal shot .

Finally, Harvey admits that he initially wanted to kill Nicky Turnbull together with Jo Gilchrist, but that she backed down at the last moment and he therefore strangled her. With the help of hotel employee Chloe, he still managed to kill Nicky.
