action
The American math student Martin starts a semester abroad at Oxford University. He is interested in questions of logic, which also fall into the specialty of Professor Arthur Seldom, and therefore hopes to be able to win the professor as a doctoral supervisor. When they first met, however, he got into a fight with the professor: They had different opinions about the philosophical question about the existence of truth. When Martin's landlady is murdered, Martin and the professor meet at the crime scene. The murderer leaves a mark at Seldom; this suspects the beginning of a logical series of signs that point to further murders. Seldom and Martin are looking for a solution to the riddle, incorporating various mathematical and philosophical considerations. While initially pursuing the wrong lead, Martin ends up finding the real killer and realizing that it was Seldom who led Martin to wrong conclusions.
criticism
"Atmospherically dense, philosophically and epistemologically padded mystery thriller, filmed in original locations, which is exciting and cleverly entertaining."
