Jim Carter
James Edward "Jim" Carter , OBE (born August 19, 1948 in Harrogate , Yorkshire , England ) is a British actor .
life and career
Carter was a member of the comedy company Madhouse Company of London in the 1970s . He played his first film role in the SF action comedy Flash Gordon from 1980. He won the Screen Actors Guild Award in 1999 together with other actors for the role in Shakespeare in Love . From 2010 to 2015 he played the butler Carson in the award-winning television series Downton Abbey . He received an Emmy nomination for this role in 2012 .
Carter has been married to actress Imelda Staunton since 1985 . Their daughter was born in 1993.
