(11762) Vogel is an asteroid in the main belt . He was discovered on September 24, 1960 by Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld in photographs taken by Tom Gehrels in the Palomar Observatory .
The asteroid is named after Hermann Carl Vogel , a German astrophysicist .
