(13037) Potosi is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 2 March 1990 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.
The asteroid was named on October 4, 2009 after the city of Potosí , located on the Bolivian Altiplano , which, thanks to the silver wealth of neighboring Cerro Rico, became one of the largest cities in the world in the early 17th century and whose silver and tin deposits make the city still today is dependent.
