(1604) Tombaugh is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 24 March 1931 by Carl Otto Lampland at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff , Arizona was discovered.
The name of the asteroid is reminiscent of the American astronomer Clyde William Tombaugh , who discovered the dwarf planet Pluto in 1930 .
