(1681) Steinmetz is an asteroid of the main belt discovered on November 23, 1948 by the French astronomer Marguerite Laugier in Nice .
The name of the asteroid was chosen in memory of Julius Steinmetz at the suggestion of O. Kippes , who was involved in reviewing this discovery . Steinmetz (1893-1965) was a pastor in Gerolfingen and calculated the orbits of comets and asteroids.
