(1789) Dobrovolsky is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on August 19, 1966 by the Russian astronomer LI Tschernych at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095).

The asteroid is named after the Soviet cosmonaut Georgi Timofejewitsch Dobrowolski .
