Lyudmila Ivanovna Chernych

Lyudmila Ivanovna Chernykh ( Russian Людмила Ивановна Черных ., Scientific transliteration Lyudmila Ivanovna Cernych ; English spelling: Lyudmila Ivanovna Chernykh * 13. June 1935 in Shuya , Ivanovo , † 28. July 2017 ) was a Russian astronomer .

In 1959 she graduated from the Irkutsk State Pedagogical University . She then worked until 1963 in a laboratory for time and frequency measurements at the All Union research institute for physical-technical and radio-technical measurements in Irkutsk, where she made astrometric observations for the time service . From 1964 to 1998 she was a research assistant at the Institute for Theoretical Astronomy at the Soviet / Russian Academy of Sciences and worked at the Crimean Observatory . Here she met her future husband, the astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych , with whom she worked.

LITschernych discovered 268 asteroids , including (1772) Gagarin , (2807) Karl Marx , (2877) Likhachev , (3147) Samantha and the Apollo asteroid (2212) Hephaestus .

In honor of the Chernychs, the asteroid (2325) was named Chernykh .
