(1881) Shao is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on August 3, 1940 by the German astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth at the Heidelberg-Königstuhl State Observatory at the University of Heidelberg .
The asteroid is named after Cheng-yuan Shao , assistant to US astronomer Richard Eugene McCrosky .
