(1898) Cowell ( 1971 UF 1 ; 1960 VK ) is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on October 26, 1971 by Luboš Kohoutek in the Hamburg observatory ( mountain village ).
The asteroid was named after the British astronomer Philip Herbert Cowell (1870-1949).
