(20952) Tydeus is an asteroid belonging to the group of Jupiter Trojans . This describes asteroids that move around the sun on the Lagrange points on Jupiter's orbit .

(20952) Tydeus was discovered on September 25, 1973 by the Dutch astronomers Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels at the Palomar Observatory ( IAU code 675). It is assigned to the Lagrangian point L 4 .

The asteroid is named after the mythological Greek hero Tydeus , one of the seven against Thebes , whose son Diomedes fought on the side of the Greeks in the Trojan War .
