(3287) Olmstead is an orbit- grazing asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on February 28, 1981 by the American astronomer Schelte John Bus at the Siding Spring Observatory ( IAU code 413) in Australia .
The asteroid was named after the American astronomer and asteroid discoverer C. Michelle Olmstead .
