(4065) Meinel is an asteroid of the Flora family of the main belt , which was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the research team Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels as part of the Palomar-Leiden Survey . However, the object was spotted for the first time on August 14, 1953 by the Rainbow Observatory near Coonabarabran.
The asteroid bears the name of the American astronomer Aden Baker Meinel .
