(5038) Overbeek is an asteroid of the main belt , which the South African astronomer on May 31, 1948 Ernest Leonard Johnson , from the Union Observatory ( IAU code 078) in Johannesburg was made, discovered.

The asteroid is named after the South African amateur astronomer and AAVSO member Daniel Overbeek .
