(5095) Escalante is an asteroid in the main belt of the solar system that Edward LG Bowell discovered on July 10, 1983 at the Anderson Mesa Station of the Lowell Observatory . He is within the 3: 1 Kirkwood gap , which is 2.50 AU.
The minor planet was named in 1993 after the Bolivian math teacher Jaime Escalante (1930-2010).
