(7082) La Serena is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on December 17, 1987 by Eric Walter Elst and Guido Pizarro in an observatory of the European Southern Observatory . The asteroid was named on November 20, 2002 after the city of La Serena on the Pacific Ocean , as many astronomers travel there. Due to the sparsely populated environment, favored by the desert climate, the view there is good, which means that there are many observatories, and the European Southern Observatory also has an office in La Serena.
