Ángel Madrazo (born July 30, 1988 in Santander , Cantabria ) is a Spanish cyclist . The biggest success of the super specialist so far was a stage victory of the Vuelta a España 2019 .
Career
In 2006 Madrazo won two parts of the international junior race Vuelta al Besaya .
In the adult segment, Madrazo won a stage of the Circuito Montañés in 2008 and at the end of the year drove Scott-American Beef for the UCI ProTeam as a stagiaire . From the 2009 season he received at Caisse d'Epargne (later called Movistar ), for which he contested his first Grand Tour with the Vuelta a España in 2011 , but did not finish the race.
For the 2014 season, Madrazo moved to the UCI Professional Continental Team Caja Rural-Seguros RGA , for which he won his first international one-day race in 2015 with Prueba Villafranca de Ordizia . After riding for Delko Marseille Provence KTM in 2017 and 2018 , he switched to Burgos-BH in 2019 .
At the Vuelta a España 2019 , Madrazo secured the lead in the mountain classification by participating in a breakaway attempt . On the third stage, he broke out of a breakaway group and won both mountain classifications. On the fifth stage he ran away together with his teammates Jetse Bol and José Herrada and won the mountain finish , although he lost contact with his companions several times. Madrazo led in the mountain classification of the tour until the end of the 15th stage and finally came second in the overall mountain classification of the tour .
