Étienne Dujardin-Beaumetz

Henri Charles Étienne Dujardin-Beaumetz (born September 29, 1852 in Passy near Paris , † September 27, 1913 in Le Bezole , Département Aude ) was a French painter.

Life

Dujardin-Beaumetz was a son of the doctor Hippolyte Dujardin-Beaumetz and his wife Clémence Lepère. Dujardin-Beaumetz came to Paris and was taught at the École des Beaux-Arts by Émile Bin and Alexandre Cabanel , among others .

Later, Dujardin-Beaumetz was instrumental in founding the Société libre des artistes français ; an artists' association to improve the marketing of their works, but also as a mouthpiece for the avant-garde . Paul Alexis , Numa Costa , Marius Roux-Renard and Émile Zola were involved or were members from the very beginning .

On February 4, 1886, Dujardin-Beaumetz married Marie-Louise Petiet, the granddaughter of General Paul Petiet, in Paris ( 16th arrondissement ) . The couple lived for some time in Paris XVI, later they settled in La Bezole. Two days before his 61st birthday, Étienne Dujardin-Beaumetz died on September 27, 1913 in La Bezole, where he found his final resting place.

A remarkable portrait of Dujardin-Beaumetz was created in 1906 by the painter Adolphe Déchenaud ; it is now owned by the Musée d'Orsay .
