Paul Alexis

Paul Alexis (born June 16, 1847 in Aix-en-Provence , Bouches-du-Rhône department , † July 28, 1901 in Levallois-Perret , Seine department ) was a French writer , playwright and journalist .

Life

After studying law in his hometown, Alexis went to Paris, where he became a close friend of Émile Zola and his family. In Paris he worked for several newspapers with articles, some anonymously. He wrote for the newspapers L'Avenir national , La Cloche , Le Cri du peuple , Gil Blas , Le Journal , and Le Voltaire , among others .

Act

Alexis wrote novels and short stories in a naturalistic style. This also applies to his plays, some of which he wrote with Oscar Méténier . Together with Émile Zola, he belonged to the group of six . The painting by Paul Cézanne was made in 1869/1870. Paul Alexis reads Zola aloud , which was privately owned in Switzerland in 2012 . Henry Céard referred to Paul Alexis as Zola's shadow .
