The oil spill off Brazil from 2019 is large-scale oil spills off the Brazilian coast. As of August 2019, up to 2000 km of coastline in the Atlantic off northeast Brazil, and thus more than 200 beaches, according to the Ibama environmental institute, were affected. The cause is unknown.

578 coastal beaches in the states of the two Região Nordeste and Região Sudeste are affected : Alagoas , Bahia , Ceará , Maranhão , Paraíba , Pernambuco , Espírito Santo , Piauí Rio Grande do Norte and also in Sergipe .

The first reports of an oil spill appeared on September 2, 2019. The government has not yet declared a state of emergency. Environmental groups accuse the Brazilian government under the Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro of having largely ignored the oil spill so far and of having provided hardly any funds to combat it.

The Brazilian oil company Petrobras announced that they were blends of Venezuelan oils without assigning blame.
