Austrian barracks (Günzburg)
The former Austrian barracks in Günzburg , a town in the Swabian district of Günzburg , was built in 1780/81. The building at Bürgermeister-Landmann-Platz 2 is a protected architectural monument .
history
As the capital of the margraviate of Burgau in Upper Austria, the city of Günzburg had a so-called advertising house next to the Kuhtor for newly recruited soldiers since 1744 . On October 28, 1779, the Consilium bellicum in Vienna decided to build barracks in Günzburg on the instructions of Emperor Joseph II . As a plot, a tree garden, owned by the city prädikatur was purchased and erected the building 1780/81. Newly recruits were initially housed in the barracks and in 1790 a battalion of the Bender House Regiment was stationed here. The barracks area also included the officer's apartments in the houses Augsburger Strasse 14 and 18 and the house Augsburger Strasse 16 as the commandant's office .
After the margraviate of Burgau passed to Bavaria in 1806, the building was converted into a warehouse for grain with city scales. In 1900 the building was converted into a school according to plans by the builder Xaver Bayer and used by the grammar school. Today the adult education center is located in the building.

The three-storey hipped roof building with a gabled central risalit and plaster structure with corner pilasters was built according to plans by Joseph Dossenberger . The early classicist brick building has eleven to four window axes . The ground floor on a low plinth is provided with a striped rustica.
