The Austrian national team in competitive ski mountaineering was first set up by ASKIMO in the 2007/2008 season and is the Austrian national selection of qualified ski mountaineers . This means that Austria is also the last Alpine country to have a national team in this sport. Before ASKIMO was founded, Austrian ski mountaineers could only take part in international competitions through the Association of Austrian Alpine Associations (VAVÖ). The coach is the Carinthian Alexander Lugger . In addition to seniors (from 21 years of age), the roster also includes members of the age groups cadets (15-17 years), juniors (18-20 years) and Espoirs (21-23 years).
