The organization received ISO 9002 certification for quality management in September 2000. In September 2003 the ISO 9002 certification was reorganized to ISO 9001: 2000 and in October 2009 to ISO 9001: 2008.

In 2010, a total of 172,000 transports were carried out in three federal states.

In July 2015 it was announced that the Vienna Red Cross would like to take over the Green Cross, and a preliminary agreement for the takeover was signed. The two organizations plan to work together on administration from September 1, 2015, subject to regulatory approvals. In November, the Federal Competition Authority (BWB) approved the merger of the Vienna Green Cross with the Red Cross. The Green Cross has a total of 140 emergency vehicles, of which around 115 are constantly on duty. These are mainly patient transport vehicles (KTW) and emergency ambulances (NKTW), but also ambulances (RTW) and intensive care vehicles (ITW). In 2010, a neonatal transport network was set up in Vienna with a special vehicle ( Baby-NAW ).

In addition, the organization has trucks, command vehicles, trailers, special vehicles for transporting dogs and excavators for the disaster relief service.

Rescue dog squadron

In December 2009, a separate rescue dog team was established with a training location in Tobaj / Güssing in Burgenland. Since June 2011 there has also been a relay in Styria with a training location in Graz , and since July 2012 a further relay in Lower Austria with a training location in Wiener Neustadt .

Since September 2011, the Austrian Green Cross with its rescue dog squadron has been an extraordinary body of the Austrian Cynological Association (ÖKV) .

financing

As an organization, the Green Cross finances its operations through the income from paid services in the medical sector and through the rescue service contribution ("rescue euro") from the communities. It was criticized that the organization did not pay its employees under a collective agreement and that it had illegally obliged them to work 24 hours a day, which was only ended when an employee caused an accident in February 2010 with three injured people. The Austria-wide collective agreements that have been in effect since January 1, 2011 , as they apply to all emergency services throughout Austria, also apply to the remuneration at the Green Cross.
