Ørje is the administrative headquarters of the Marker municipality in the province ( Fylke ) Viken , Norway . On January 1, 2019, the population was 1,848.
Ørje is on the European route 18 (E 18). It is just under six kilometers from the center to the border with Sweden . The Norwegian capital Oslo is about 90 kilometers away.
Attractions
- the Haldenvassdragets Canal Museum,
- the lock system between the lakes Rødenessjøen and Øymarkssjøen, built between 1857 and 1860
- the two former military fortifications ( Ørje-fortene ) from the beginning of the 20th century.
