The Haldenvassdraget river system is located in the province of Viken in southeast Norway .

The river has its source north of Lake Flolangen on Dragsjøhanken . The river flows south. It flows through a chain of lakes consisting of Flolangen , Floen , Bjørkelangen , Botnersjøen , Fossersjøen , Skulerudsjøen , Rødenessjøen , Øymarksjøen , Aremarksjøen , Aspern and Femsjøen . As it flows through the Aspern, the river changes its orientation and continues to flow in a westerly direction. The river sections of the water system are called Haretonelva , Lierelva , Hølandselva , Ørjeelva , Skotsbergelva , Stenselva and Tista .

The total length of the river is 149 km. Of this, 90 km are spread over rivers and 60 km on lakes through which they flow. The catchment area covers 1588 km². At Tistedalsfoss below Femsjøen, the mean discharge is 23.4 m³ / s. The lowest section of the river, downstream of Femsjøen, is called Tista. This flows into the Iddefjord and the Skagerrak in the town of Halden .

The lower course of the river system from Ørje is navigable through the Halden Canal with several locks. In addition, five hydropower plants use the lower reaches to generate energy. In the past the river was used for rafting .
