The port city of Þorlákshöfn [ ˈθɔrlauxshœpn̥ ] is located in the municipality of Ölfus in southwest Iceland and has 1654 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019). The place is 52 km from the capital Reykjavík .

On the flat, almost portless south coast, Þorlákshöfn is the only larger port besides Höfn, 400 km to the east . From here the ferry went to 2010 Herjólfur after Heimaey to the islands of Vestmannaeyjar . The distance from Þorlákshöfn to Heimaey, which is about 10 km from Iceland, is a little over 70 km. Landeyjahöfn harbor , which is closer to the islands and was specially built for the ferry to the islands, has existed since July 2010 . In certain weather conditions, however, the port of Þorlákshöfn is still used for this purpose.

The most important branches of business in Þorlákshöfn are shipbuilding as well as fishing and processing.

Directly at the mouth there is a bridge over the Ölfusá , the river with the most water in Iceland. The Búri Cave is to the northwest of the village .
