Þorsteinn Víglundsson

Þorsteinn Víglundsson ( transcribed Thorsteinn Viglundsson ; born November 22, 1969 in Seltjarnarnes ) is an Icelandic manager and politician ( Viðreisn ). From January to November 2017 he was Minister for Social Affairs and Equality in the Icelandic Ministry of Welfare.

Life

Þorsteinn Víglundsson is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at IESE Business School and complemented this with further studies in management and strategy at the University of Iceland . His professional career began as a journalist for business topics at Morgunblaðið . He later held a managerial position at Kaupthing / Kaupthing Luxembourg (1998-2002) from 1998 to 2002 , from 2002 to 2010 as director of BM Vallá (mining and export of pumice stone ) and from 2010 to 2013 as director of the Icelandic aluminum producers association . Since 2013 he has been general director of the Icelandic employers' association Samtök atvinnulífsins .

In the parliamentary elections on October 29, 2016 , Þorsteinn Víglundsson was elected to the Icelandic parliament Althing for the constituency of Reykjavík-Nord . Since January 11, 2017, he has been Minister for Social Affairs and Equality in the Bjarni Benediktsson cabinet (2017) , which consisted of members of the Independence Party as well as Viðreisn and Björt framtíð . His Ministry and the Ministry of Health, headed by Bjarni Benediktsson Óttarr Proppé in the cabinet , form the Icelandic Ministry of Welfare ( Velferðarráðuneytið ).
