Óttarr Proppé

Óttarr Proppé (born November 7, 1968 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic politician ( Björt framtíð ), musician and actor . As one of two ministers of the Icelandic Ministry of Welfare, he was Minister of Health in the Bjarni Benediktsson cabinet (2017) .

Career

After graduating from Pennridge High School in Perkasie , Pennsylvania , Óttarr worked in various Icelandic bookstores from 1987 to 2010 . As a musician and songwriter , he was among others in the Icelandic rock and punk bands HAM , Dr. Spock and Rass active. He appeared in a leading role in the feature film Óskabörn þjóðarinnar and in smaller roles in Sódóma Reykjavík and Nói Albínói . Since 2008 he has been a member of the board of directors of the Icelandic collecting society for the rights of music authors, STEF.

Since 2010, Óttarr has been on the board of the local Reykjavík party Besti flokkurinn , for which he was a member of the Reykjavík City Council from 2010 to 2013. At the national level, he has been a member of the board of Björt framtíð since 2012 and has been a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the constituency of Reykjavík-South since the Icelandic parliamentary election on April 27, 2013 . He was a member of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs and the joint EU- Iceland parliamentary committee and was the sixth member of the Althing’s parliamentary vice-presidency from 2013 to 2015. From 2015 to 2017 he was party chairman of Björt framtíð. Since January 11, 2017, he has succeeded Kristján Þór Júlíusson as Minister of Health in the Bjarni Benediktsson cabinet (2017) , which consisted of members of the Independence Party as well as of Viðreisn and Óttarr's party Björt framtíð.

In the parliamentary elections on October 28, 2017 Björt framtíð was unable to win any more seats in the Althing, with which Óttarr Proppé also lost his seat in parliament.

At the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 Óttarr Proppé performed as a background singer for the band Pollapönk . The President of Parliament, Einar K. Guðfinnsson, congratulated the band at the Althing with a special mention of Óttarr.
