The ATE IIa and IIb were triple-coupled freight trains - steam locomotives of the kk priv. Aussig-Teplitz Railway .
history
The first class IIa locomotive was delivered in 1859 by Borsig in Berlin to the Aussig-Teplitz Railway, which had opened the year before. Apparently, however, there was initially no need for a locomotive that was so powerful for the time. Sigl then built another four locomotives in Vienna in 1864 and 1867.
Only after the continuation of its main line to Komotau did ATE have a need for more locomotives. These were delivered as Category IIb by Hartmann in Chemnitz . The 24 locomotives were manufactured between 1870 and 1874 with the serial numbers 429–431, 448, 478–480, 515–517, 603–613 and 737–739. As usual with the Aussig-Teplitz Railway, they were almost exclusively given names according to places in the catchment area of the railway: SCHLOSSBERG , TÜRMITZ , KARBITZ , BILIN , SCHWAZ , GÖRKAU , ELBE , MARIASCHEIN , SCHÖNAU , BIELA , TURN , PROBSTAU , ZINNWALD , KULM , Kosten , DOPPELBURG , AUSTRIA , GERMANIA , SAXONIA , BRITANNIA , BOHEMIA , STADITZ , SCHALLAN and PILKAU .
The Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik in Vienna manufactured eight more locomotives in 1880 and 1885.
The ATE IIa and IIb were mainly used in coal traffic on the main ATE route from Komotau to the Elbe port of Aussig .
With the exception of one locomotive, all ATE IIa and IIb came to the Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD after the nationalization of ATE (1924) and were given the new series designation 302.1 . By 1938, the locomotives were no longer part of the ČSD fleet.
None of the ATE IIa and IIb locomotives have been preserved in museums.
technical features
The locomotives had a long boiler made of three sections, which was drawn in between the frame cheeks in the fire box area. The large, rounded steam dome was arranged on the front section of the boiler and also carried the spring balance safety valve. A Friedmann injector was used to feed the boiler . Like all ATE locomotives, the locomotives were equipped with a Kobel chimney for burning Bohemian lignite.
The steam engine was designed as a two-cylinder engine with internal controls. The drive and coupling axles, designed as disc wheel sets, were firmly mounted in the frame. It is not known whether the central axle had a weakened flange. The second axle served as the drive axle.
