Michael Callan

Michael Callan (born November 22, 1935 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ; actually Martin Harris Calinieff ) is an American actor .

Life

Callan, who received singing and dance lessons in his youth, began his career as Mickey Calin. Under that name he played roles in The Boy Friend (1954), Catch a Star (1955) and West Side Story (1957) on Broadway . During a performance he was discovered by Joyce Selznick, who was working as a talent scout for Columbia Pictures , where he was finally given a seven-year contract. He stood in front of the film camera for the first time in 1959 in the western They Came to Cordura at the side of Gary Cooper and Rita Hayworth . Although he did not get the role of Riff, which he played in the original cast of West Side Story on Broadway, in the film version due to his contract with Columbia, he danced in the 1961 film April Discovered Hawaii . He later played in Die Sieger (1963), Cat Ballou - You should hang in Wyoming (1965), The Death Ride of the Magnificent 7 (1972) and Inseparable (2003). He also appeared in numerous television series, such as Quincy , Knight Rider and Mord ist her Hobby .

He was married three times, to Carlyn Chapman (1960-1967), Patricia Harty and Karen Malouf. From his marriage to Carlyn Chapman he has two daughters, Dawn and Rebecca.
