The kkStB 169 was a cogwheel locomotive series of the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB), which originally came from the Reichenberg-Gablonz-Tannwalder Railway (RGTE).

history

For the Tannwald - Grünthal cogwheel railway line ( Tannwalder cogwheel railway ), the Floridsdorf locomotive factory supplied three quadruple-coupled tank locomotives with the Dept. cogwheel drive system in 1901. The machines were given the numbers 21G to 23G and the names DESSENDORF , IGNAZ GINZKEY and POLAUN .

After the state took over the company in 1902 , the machines were initially given the designation 69.50–52, which was changed to 169.50–52 in 1905.

After the First World War , the locomotives came to ČSD, which classified them as class 404.0. During the Second World War they were given the numbers 97 601-603 by the Deutsche Reichsbahn .

The locomotives always remained on their original route and were not taken out of service until the early 1960s. As a replacement from 1962, brand new gear wheel diesel locomotives from SGP of the T 426.0 series were used.

From 1911, fan turbines were tested on the locomotives in order to reduce the enormous smoke pollution of the locomotive personnel when driving up the mountain in the long tunnels. The turbine sucked in fresh air from the space under the locomotive and blew it into the driver's cab. Obviously, the effect of these fans was insufficient, so that a series conversion was dispensed with. With the use of high-quality, low-ash coal, the smoke pollution in the tunnels could ultimately be reduced more effectively (also for travelers).

The locomotive 404.003 was preserved and became the property of the National Technical Museum in Prague . The vehicle was in the Jaroměř Railway Museum as a non-operational museum exhibit for many years . It is now in the NTM's Chomutov depot .
