The steam locomotive series ČSD 436.0 was a steam locomotive series of the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD).
history
The locomotives were manufactured in 1918 at the Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works (SLM) in Winterthur , Switzerland, on behalf of the British Ministry of Munitions Production. SLM serial numbers were 2650 to 2659. After the First World War , the locomotives came to the newly founded ČSD in 1919 as a temporary help. This used the locomotives from now on exclusively on the Slovak route Bratislava – Žilina .
The initially assigned numbers 570.711–720 still corresponded to the designation scheme of the kkStB , which only gave way to the new scheme of the ČSD in 1923, in which they were referred to as 436.001–010.
As the machines proved their worth, the workshop in Česká Třebová built another machine of this type in 1932 from the existing spare parts and a newly built boiler. The locomotive was given the number 436.011.
The locomotives were used on their main line in Slovakia until the 1960s, until they became dispensable with the beginning of the traction changeover. In January 1968, the 436.008 from the Trenčianska Teplá depot was the last locomotive to be retired. None of the 436.0 series has been preserved in a museum.
