The CSD Series EM 475.1 (from 1988: Series 451 ) is an electric transport - Triebzug the former Czechoslovak State Railways (CSD) for the 3-kV direct current system. The vehicles were procured specifically for the suburban railway similar to Prague , today's Esko Prague . They are among the first full-line vehicles with a low-floor section and enable almost stepless access to the middle passenger compartment of each car from 550 mm high platforms.
history
The prototype of the series was built in 1959 at Vagonka Tatra in Studénka . The electrical equipment was supplied by MEZ in Vsetín . From 1964, 52 series vehicles were manufactured for the ČSD, which were mainly used in the greater Prague area, but also around Olomouc . Another improved series emerged from 1973 as the EM 475.2 series.
Because of its 1960s-style front, railway workers also call the train “Žabotlam”, which means “frog mouth”.
Originally, a normative useful life of 15 years was planned. The procurement of the successor type 470 was planned from 1994 onwards, as the prototypes did not prove themselves, an order was not made. It was only with the entry into service of the class 471 double-decker railcars from 2001 that the vehicles began to be phased out.
The last area of operation was the S41 line of Esko Prague, for which the unit 451.025 / 026, which was shortened to three parts, was still available. The operations ended on August 10, 2018. One day later, the train was transferred to the depot of the National Technical Museum in Chomutov as part of a special trip with great sympathy from the population . The unit 451.045 / 046 was refurbished in 2010 and is kept operational.
