The former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) designated two prototypes of electric double-decker multiple units for suburban traffic in Prague similar to the S-Bahn as the ČSD series 470 (originally: ČSD series EM 496.0 ) . They should replace the outdated 451/452 series .

history

The two prototype trains of the series were built in 1991 by Moravskoslezská vagonka in Studénka . Conceptually, they were based on the one-story predecessor series EM 488.0 (460).

With the dissolution of Czechoslovakia into the independent states of the Czech Republic and Slovakia on January 1, 1993, the two built multiple units remained with the České dráhy (ČD). A series procurement of the vehicles was ultimately omitted for financial reasons. At the end of the 1990s, a successor model was developed as the 471 series , which has been in series production for ČD since 2001. In contrast to the 470 series, however, these trains are only made up of three parts, but consist of two floors.

commitment

The two multiple units have been in service in Prague's rapid transit system (now Esko Prague ) since they were commissioned . They preferred the route Praha - Kolín - Pardubice . The last still operational multiple unit 470.003 / 004 ran until October 2009 on the S7 Praha hl.n. - Beroun .
